An end cap, a place to hide nutrition or his compact turbo booster rockets?

And GASP....a spacer!!! Paulo...maybe you could led Stadler a hand with this.

Yes, a spacer. Because the friggin head tube is insanely stubby on that thing, even on a size L. Your typical tri-geek would need an upturned stem AND a few cms of spacers to even come close to riding it.

Stadler and Macca both had SaltSticks on their bikes, but Stadler said at the banquet that he didn't take any salt during the race other than what was in his new PowerGels. I'm sure Salt Sticks' business will see a bump anyways though!

A single spacer is not a problem. The problem lies with heights approaching 2 inches, which really translates into "gee I really want this XXXXX bike, but it doesn't fit worth a damn, but I'm getting it anyway!"

Well..I'm buying one, so they can forecast another $23 this month to their sales forecast. Probably won't use it....as with many things I buy.

Sounds like a NASCAR interview trying to make sponsors happy. Any other juicy bike info?

Agreed- 1 spacer is cool. 6cm and a turned up stem is not. Especially when mis-labeled as bike porn.

A P3 with a bunch of spacers is like a super model with a wooden leg.

Acrotomophilia - Acrotomophilia is an intense desire for one's partner to be an amputee. (Yes I had to look it up)

Maybe this explains the spacer phenomena?

i don't think the powergels have enough electrolytes do they?

How many endurolytes in addition to gatorade might one take at a hot humid IM such as IMKY? Could a saltstick hold anywhere near enough?

the new powergels are full of sodium. 200mg if i recall correctly. There is so much salt you can taste it. Ever put salt in your coffee? then you know what the "double latte" flavor tastes like.

If its true I think he proved that there is enough electrolytes in the newer powergels for his own personal needs.

Everyone requires different amounts, the biggest worry I have with electrolyte intake is I've experienced not consuming enough but not the other end of the spectrum. Anyone know what happens when you take in too many electrolytes and what that misbalance does to your performance?

This question is the reason I didn't buy a salt stick a few months ago. Very cool product, but only holds <10 salt pills. I'm planning on taking 30+ on the bike at IMFL next week.

IN my opinoin, Endurolytes are worthless. Hardly any sodium (40mg) compared to something like thermolyte (150mg). You'd have to be popping endurolytes ALL the time to keep up.

I've read some studies that show sodium is not the most effect electrolyte when it comes to intake. Your body is very good at regulating sodium compared to other essential electrolytes. There is also reasoning that you should only try minimal repletion of electrolytes when the losses are high.

Sure, that makes sense. But by minimal, do you mean minimal intake, or minimal compared to what you lose (percentage-wise)? Certainly when you are out in the sun for a long day you aren't going to be able to take in all that you lose (electrolytes, water, calories), but it seems to me that some needs to be taken.

You say you're taking 30+ on the bike next week but that isn't popping pills ALL the time? One every 3-4 miles seems like all the time.

Re: What is this? (Stadler's Bike) [Diesel] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

I bought two of these (salt sticks) for IMMoo and mounted them in my bars (like Stadler). I had asked about these (on Slowtwitch) before I bought them, but, got little response. I promised to write a product review, but, failed to do so.

So .... I used them and they worked incredibly well. If you recall, IMMoo was a wet mess all day. The sticks kept my salt tabs completely dry. Having them right on your bars makes you remember to actually take the tabs on a regular basis. I also bought two mini salt sticks and put them on my race number belt for the run. Again, in the rain, kept the pills perfectly dry and very easy to access. Small little turn and the pill pops right out. I love these things. Showed them to my lbs guy after the race. He liked them so much, he has decided to start stocking them.

That is quite possibly true. Can you put in however much sodium you want? Might have to experiment with that for 2007.

Yeah, you are right when you look at it that way. I think of it as 1-2 pills every 15 minutes, every time I drink. Easy. I'm planning on 6-7 per hour.
