yeah it was weird, for those of you that raced the granville triahtlon or know denison's campus you know this hill, a lot of these guys were comming down it this way.

playing with zoom? or is it photoshopped?

on an emotional level, I love the colors and the impact of the zoom, really focusing on the rider.

I don't like the fact that he's going downhill - its an ugly pose that I wouldn't want a photo of. Not to mention the ripples in his suit...

anal photo.net critic would also comment on the background tree being a nuisance and the sidewalk...

like I said, I love the colors and punch, mediocre subject. I personally prefer these kind of shots that give some emotion rather than a crisp 1/4000 shutter speed pic showing absolute static. (ie. Graham waton style pics Zzz)

this one was PS'ed on the request of the team, but i agree this style of more fun most of the time. first time shooting cycling, most of my stuff is more fun art geared, like these

are the colors artificial on the waterfall and rowers? I really like the waterfall pic - (I like blue) and got similar colors while messing around with tungsten film in daylight but that was long ago...

the golden shine in the rowers is very symbolic- morning/evening sun is so cool to play with; unless its digital?

You're quite multi-talented! How long did you have to sit around to photograph the heron? Nature photography is nice but I can barely patiently wait for my cat to pose. Do you put up your pics on photo.net for comments? they're probably more receptive - although I haven't been on that forum in years.

The potrait subject is obviously beautiful - but I'm not so big on photoshopping/fudging people. My gf probably thinks otherwise but I love accurate skin tones and eyes - its the realism and emotion I like to see - not something bleached out... (my personal preference, nothing to do with your ability - I wouldn't even know where to begin with making portraits like that.)

Where do you find the time to do all this? I barely have time to train, photography's taken the backburner for a long time.

never put stuff on there, i have a ton on photosig.com, very nice place for photography.

no, the waterfall has not been touched. thats how the slide came back from the lab, velvia film, and very long exposure (30 sec) let it shift further blue.

the one of the rowers was shot on b/w film and then toned.

and the heron i shot while helping a friend film a movie last week.

most of this stuff i do in my spare time when not trianing, i am at school working for the summer, so i train, work, sleep and do this, thats about it.

too busy.

As mentioned, the effect is nice, although the ghost image around the wheels, etc. somewhat dulls the emphasis on the solo image.

There are some additional items re: the photo itself, but framing/angle/etc. just comes with more experience. Overall, I wouldn't do it for all photos, but it is a nice technique that can set you apart from the majority of very average photographers out there :-)

thanks for everyone that has stopped by, the cycling image was taken at a local race, and the effect was done at for a team i am working with to see what the image would look like. i agree with those that have said motion blur would have looked good, but they wanted to see what this would look like. this is my first try at cycling photogrpahy, most of the sports i normaly shoot are crew, hockey and running, while i am mostly a fine art photographer. thanks again.
