stages pm and felt b16
I was wondering about the compatibility of a stages pm on a felt b16. Their site just shows ??. Was wondering if any of you with felt b16s could weigh in on the matter. Or is it possible to make it compatible if it isn't straight out of the box. Also if it works for you would you mind saying what year your b16 is. I'm asking because I've got my eyes on getting a b16 and eventually a stages pm but it might deter me if they aren't compatible.

Thanks for your time.

My 2013 B16 has a FSA crank and I checked with Stages about it. At the time they didn't offer any FSA compatible cranks, but they just announced new cranks in like the past 2 weeks.

From BikeRadar:

The company will now be selling their sub-20g power meter installed on Shimano Ultegra 6800 cranks and FSA cranks compatible with MegaExo and BB30 bottom brackets. Availability is November 2013 for the Ultegra 6800 model and January 2014 for the FSA versions.

Both my 2013 B16 and my husband's 2012 B12 have FSA MegaExo bottom brackets so it looks like there is hope.

It categorically will not fit. I tried it on my wife's B10.

The issue is not the chain stay, it is the adjustment on the rear brake. It fouls the Stages mount by around 3mm. It clears the frame easily.

I sourced a DuraAce 7800 rear brake which is a lower profile but you have to mount the brake a little off centre and even then there is only about 1mm or less clearance. On climbing it still rubbed, and my wife is only 95lbs so not exactly pushing the power out.

The solution would appear to be a TRP T925 rear brake. I ordered one and it is sitting on the table next to me as I type. I spoke with Dave from Felt (SuperDave on this forum) and he recommended this one. It looks like it should work perfectly as it dispenses with the brake adjustment arm reducing the profile buy quite a chunk, I will post pics once it is installed.

Hope that helps.

The Stages works well by the way, she swapped the crank arm over to her roadie (I got her Felt a new crank to match the roadie for that reason, so she could swap between them). She loves it :)

Awesome thanks Jay, I'd love to see the pics once you get it installed! Glad to know their is potentially a fix for this as I really liked the way the B16 fits me, but know that I eventually will want a PM and the price is really hard to beat on stages.

Here is the pre-install pic.

The turqoise arrow shows where the PM would be placed (were it currently on the bike)

As you can see by the red arrow, the brake adjust sticks out quite a bit, the DA7800 is better than the stock brake but still not good enough. It clears the PM by under 1mm but that is with the brake installed slightly off centre.

In the image I am holding the TRP brake, trying to get it in line with the DA7800. It is a little out of line but as you can see from the green line there is a ton more clearance due to not having the brake adjust. The Stages PM is miles away from the frame itself.

More pics once installed, maybe this weekend if I can pluck up the enthusiasm to install it. I am not a wrench so everything takes me ten times as long as it should.

I think the brake was $74 on Wiggle.

Picture is worth a thousand words! Thanks for the upload and explanation, makes a lot more sense now, looks like it'll fit no problem with the new brake.

On the new TRP brake where did they relocate the brake adjust to?

p.s. take your time on the install!

Thanks

I just set up my Stages Cycling DA9000 powermeter on my new AR with similar brake location and clearance issues. Once again the TRP-made, Felt co-developed brake came to the rescue when my BR-9010R justed kissed the PM during crank revolution. The TRP brake fits entirely within the space of the chainstays except the anchor bolt so there is no problem with it + Stages.

Don't forget to add an inline adjuster for your T925-1B brake.

Any preference on adjusters Dave. I was planning to run the brake just slack enough to get a pumped tire in and out. Rather than a rotasting thread adjuster is there an inline 'knob' similar to that which is found on a standard brake. One that will release the brake rather than fine tune it's effectiveness. If not there is a gap in the market for the Felt team :)

Something that indexes so it doesn't spin down with use. Jagwire makes a few, I use a custom one on a few of the Felt TT bikes now. Run the adjuster at the cable housing exit port on the bars, not at the exit by the frame's BB.

I tried but couldn't make it fit. Sent stages pm back and got a power2max. Happy with the p2max.

If you've got to change the rear brake...

Maybe consider the p2max instead? Their fsa crankset is nearly as low cost as the stages and offers both leg power measurement.

With the brake cost and install I'd think you'd be at parity or higher for stages.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, running into the same issue here. But were you able to get this brake working with the Stages PM? Also which brake did you get exactly - Dave is insisting that it has to be T925-1B but I can only find T925 on the web.

Thanks in advance!

I have not added it yet. The lack of rideable weather until Spring means it is a low priority. I took a gamble as I could not find the other variant. It looks like it should work but the length of cable between the noodle and frame will have to be short to pull the noodle away from the crank. I may get around to doing it this weekend, I will keep you posted.

I found the proverbial holy grail. TRP 925.1 brake is available at Mile Wide Sports.

******* EDIT ******* The holy grail turns out to be not the holy grail at all. Wrong model, it was a 925FB.

Is that supposed to be a T925-1R? I can't find reference to a T925-1B.

Thanks!!

R is the rear brake. You'll need the rear attachment plate.
B refers to the side of the bike where the cable linage attaches.

Hey Dave,

I'm running into this same problem in the thread, but what I was wondering if TRP 925.1 will allow for a wide rim like a firecrest. The issue I had with my original brake is that it was't wide enough to fit a firecrest, so I switched to a rear SRAM red aerolink because I knew it had a lot of wheel clearance, but now brake arm is hitting the crank arm.

Thanks

Yes, the T925.1B Rear brake will fit the new wider rims from Zipp, Mavic, etc. You need to remove the spacers/washer between the brake arm and the brake pad itself.

Any idea if the new shimano 105 direct mount brake will resolve this problem? - it appears as if it would.
