lance/doping article

hey -

outside magazine's running a big story on it in the current (?) or upcoming (?) issue. it's available online -

http://outside.away.com/outside/features/200512/lance-armstrong-1.html

have yet to read it, but should be interesting. outside loves lance, but their reporting is also usually top-quality.

Nice story. Definitely comprehensive, and the stuff about Walsh was great.

Thanks for the link!

I'm tired of reading the accusations/defense/accusations/defense etc. etc. It's a circular argument...round and round in circles....

Of course none of these people are making any money or gaining notoriety by writing this stuff. They're only a bunch of altruistic common folk looking out for the good of the sport, aren't they?

Quick! Without looking! Who wrote the article? No,' I'm sure your don't remember the author's name. So much for his gaining notorety. And do you really think the most effective way for a magazine to make money by boosting its news-stand sales is to do an article on Lance and doping? They're certainly not altruistic but they sure as hell aint doing it to get rich and famous.

"And do you really think the most effective way for a magazine to make money by boosting its news-stand sales is to do an article on Lance and doping? "

Ummmm...yes, I do think it is a VERY effective way to sell magazines, at least for right now. All you need is a shred of implied credibility and some unproven, mostly ambiguous 'facts'.

"Quick! Without looking! Who wrote the article? " That's beside the point. I don't hire and fire journalists. But if I owned a magazine and wanted to boost sales, I'd be taking notice of guys who write articles that sell magazines and books; guys like David Walsh.

Don't elevate my words "money" and "notoriety" to "rich and famous", please. I chose my words carefully.

Mike, get back to work. Thats two articles I've had to read today because you're here. Though all admit, both were great articles.

The article says nothing that hasn't been said already. It's simply a rehash of everything already out there.

Joe Lindsey wrote it - he writes a lot of really interesting stuff for mountainbike.com - And the outside article is not anything new - it's a rehash of what we already know (but what the general public may not know so well). It's also quite a neutral piece. However, i doubt they would have published it when lance was still riding - they had him on their cover nearly every year since he won in '99 and would probably not even risk a 'fair' article that might mention the possibility of him doping because he might cut ties with them.

Thanks for posting this link. I thought it was a well-written and even-handed article. It's little more than a status report of Lance's legal affairs, but it is a little more. This was better journalism than most of the crap I've read on the topic.
