i got down here to north carolina last night, and just got my first ride in today, 55 miles of some pretty big hills (hey i am from ohio, these seem huge).

felt great and its nice to be able to ride without being dressed up like i am going out for a snowball fight!!!

"Big Hills" ... in Durham? Where? I lived there for 6 years and never found a hill that lasted more than 2 minutes. That would be Lystra if you are south of Durham towards Lake Jordan. And, yes, everything near Chapel Hill is called "Jordan" somethingorother.

hahahahaha these are big compared to ohio.

started around lake jordan and then went further south from there. and yeah, everything is named jordan, made finding my way around fun! no where near as steep as the hills at home but a lot longer.

very diff type of riding than i am used too!

I believe the lake is named after a NC Senator and not the basketball player.

Hey Newbz. I live in Durham. Was the weather absolutley frigging awesome for riding yesterday or what? And barely any wind to go along with the 70 degree weather. My only problem was starting off with too much gear that I could barely fit in my back pockets.

Did you ride with a group yesterday? I rode with the Cycling Spoken Here group. Off for a run today at Umstead.

OK, you're freaking me out. Who are you? That post is just plain weird.

No need to be impressed with me, not when I'm getting trounced by younger, faster and better-looking Alisha L.

;)

Where are you going in the mountains? If you think the hills around Durham are big, you are in for a treat. We have a small cabin near Brevard, NC and love riding in the mountains during the week. Since the retired population is still in FL and it is too warm to ski, the traffic will be minimal.

Are you racing Sportsplex on Sunday? If so, Set-Up does a great job. I am racing another SetUp Events race at Parris Island in SC on Saturday.

The Raleigh area is nice to train. I plan to race Duke 1/2 and hope to ride the course several times before September. I live near Charleston and really miss training on the hills. How are the roads around Lake Jordon? Some were in really bad shape last year with all the storms.

Where is your other house? Our cabin is located in Sapphire about 30 minutes west of Brevard. Most of the FL drivers are really pretty good. I have seen little old ladies speed around corners like race car drivers on narrow two-laned parts of Hwy 64.

The Duke course is really nice, but I have yet to race. I have officiated and watched my husband race. I have ridden most of the bike course and run or mountain bike the run. The bike is moderate hilly with a good blend of flats and rolling hills. Most roads are low traffic and should be in good shape this year. There were some really large holes due to the road washing out in spots last year. I really like the run course. Parts of the course are shaddy and take part of hard packed dirt which doesn't appear to slow times. Depending on wind, the swim can be really rough. The water temperature is borderline wet-suit legal.

The race is well organized and has plenty of aid stations.

I know very little about the course, but the race will be well organized. The pool swim will be nice swimming in only one direction. Hope you enjoyed the weather today. It was 84 near Charleston. Good Luck on Sunday.

The house is in Graham County, just outside of Robbinsville, on lake Santeetlah. There are some nice rides up the The Cherohala Skyway and local climbs. I am there in April for training and then back about every other month.
