I tore a calf muscle last week so I probably won't make it this year. :-(

Details? Haven't heard of this.Moriarty is one of the premier 40K in the country. This will be its 31st year. Out of the 47 or so National road timed records 32 or so were set here. It may not be the fastest course in the country because the roads are a little rough now but with good conditions records tumble. He is the link from last year.

Sorry I'm not very familiar with races that actually follow USCF requirements. Would this event be limited to UCI legal bicycles and fit position limitations for things like saddle setback and extension length? Or open to some non-UCI double diamond frames while not allowing beam bikes, etc? Thanks.

Thanks.I can't answer your question but the race was officiated by USAC last year and its listed on the USAC website this year. I would guess its under the USAC rules.

It's a USAC race so technically you'd expect USAC rules. I haven't noticed anything being checked in the several years I've been there, but if your bike or position is obviously non-compliant you may be in trouble. I'd ask the race organizer and see what he thinks.

Thanks for the info. I remember seeing posts here on ST about exceptions for non-UCI tri bikes such as the Speed Concept 9.9 and Shiv, but this may have been for ITU races.

as long as you do not want to set a national record you don't need to follow uci rules. set a record and did not follow rules and it is not an official record.

What is the condition of the asphalt this year? I know it's a week out but the weather appears guarded for Sunday.

I haven't seen the road since last year. It's probably the same. Smooth chipseal (tar on top and packed down) for the first and last ~5k and less than great asphalt on the rest.
I don't know what weather forecast you are looking at, but wunderground indicates an increasing WSW wind in the morning, which would be fairly neutral, maybe slightly favorable. Temperatures 60-70 from 8-10am. Low chance of rain. Not that a little rain would be an issue.
Any predictions of wind at this point are useless. Even 1 day before they will not be reliable, especially if there is weather. Often wind is light and random early in the morning, and it's from the southern half and gets stronger later on. It's more likely to be favorable than not, which is one reason it's a fast course.

I can't make it this year. I'm opting for the Steamboat Stage Race instead - for a change of pace.

How did Moriarty go?
Re: Moriarty National Record Challenge 40K TT [jeffp]

Conditions were generally slow on Sunday. Wind for me was pretty steady 10mph at bike level, straight headwind and straight tailwind. Monday must have been pretty good. Molly Van Houweling was there looking for a national 40+ record (~53:00). She got a 54:29 on Sun and a 52:48 on Mon for a new record! Raymond Putnam set a 90+ record on Sun, and he was hoping to try to beat it Mon, but I don't know if he was successful.
