London to Paris the HARD WAY
A client was over in London this week and cut out a news clipping about an insane event. Thought someone on the forum would want to try it. It's a 300mile race called "Arch to Arc". You run from Marble Arch in London to the Channel 87 miles, swim across the channel 22 miles and then cycle 180 miles to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Anyone interested? I'm thinking the swim would be the problem for most. It's 22mile straight with no buoys to guide you only a boat and the lovey current. Not to mention could you imagine the cramping in the legs after 87 miles of running over round terrain. Let me know what you think. It say only 87 people have finished it.

was just over in england as the wife swum the channel and the bad news is its definitely not 'only' 22 miles of swimming. you dont get to swim point to point. due to currents and tides you swim in an 'S' shaped pattern, the end result being usually between 26 and 28 miles...or depending on how fast or slow you go, you can get stuck as the tide changes and swim nowhere for 2 hrs or more..

oh, and the boat guides you, assuming you have a solid captain.

I no how hard it was doing the Escape from Alcatraz and swimming straight for just over a mile. I'm thinking a lot could go wrong in a 22 mile swim.

Those Crasy Training days you were talking about each month are as follows:

January - Resolution swim/bike/run day (5km Sw workout/100km CT Ride/15km Run or 10km snowshoe)
February - Indoor Triathlon ( Swim 2km / 90km on CT / 10-21km on road or Treadmill )
March - Movie Day (4-6hr ride with moives)
April - we are doing the following
  • Friday night 2km TT in the pool
  • Saturday AM 120km Ride with lots of hills /13km run on Rail Trail Point to Point from Orangeville to Midland
  • Sunday AM 60-90km Ride to arrive at the start of the Midland 1/2 Marathon (very low key event).
Only catch is you have to have someone to drive you home or ride we can take your bag (135km)

Those sound like fun! Great ideas.
