If you can play video games while riding... you're not riding hard enough. :-)

How do you concentrate on a workout while playing a video game?

It's really no problem. You gotta try it. Many times it adds a ton of intensity.

Maybe for a recovery ride or something, but any real ride I would say it is impossible. Maybe you could post a youtube video of you doing it at say FTP we can see how it works.

Its great for my zone 2. But I break out the old GBA and pokemon for that. I basically have adjusted my pads so that my arms bow inwards so I can hold the gameboy right infront of me. I simply have to look down every few seconds to make sure I'm within the zone range, the rest is by feel.

My last workout had me at 85% in zone 2 during a 2 hour workout duration (8% in zone 3, 1% in zone 4, the rest zone 1). I'd say that is pretty decent.

I don't watch tv that often, if i am going to veg i want to interact with some form of media, not just blob with total brain inactivity. This is coming from a very motivated grad student who is not lazy, just loves kicking butt on the box!!

If you are good it is a great game, if you are bad it will be gay!! The problem is the people who have played for over 20 total days, the game has only been out for around 120 days, come on people....get a life.

I've actually never played a game that was homosexual, but plenty of happy ones. Black Ops sure was violent, but I didn't catch any homosexual subtext in it..

Hrm.

I used to play FIFA while on the trainer. When you are in the aero bars, you can still see to play and can hammer out some intervals. High cadence/high intensity when on offense and recovery set when on defense.

If that's really the only reason you have xbox live, that's not a very good reason. 1 year subscription = $50 to $60. One chromecast device = $30. If you're not using xbox live for gaming you're basically throwing money down the drain...

I was thinking the OP was implying some sort of virtual, group racing akin to TDG or (soon-to-be prod) Zwift and others. I don't have an xbox but that would be cool and another software option in the market space. Gaming while on the trainer, no thanks.

Zwift guys - let me in please.

That was three years ago before Chromecast devices even existed.

Well we have the Kickr now and erg mode. And now of course we have the polarized training approach so there is justification to not do everything on the turbo at sweetspot/FTP/VO2 max. I've often thought that trying to do anything else when on the turbo was more a matter of not being able to concentrate on the effort than the effort itself. Somebody with a Kickr or computrainer please dispel this idea quickly before I go out and buy one...
