Using Polar RS800 and Pro Trainer 5 for HRV analysis
Quote | Reply
Question
I have a RS800SD with the option to record R-R intervals. This is working fine but I cant find any functions in ProTrainer 5 to use the data..
This site have some reports that I cant find in my software: http://www.laufen-in-koeln.de/...n/lik3.pl?aid=A-3729

And what data is most valuable tracking, the timedomain data or frequencydomain?

I can see that i have very little output in my HF data and the VLF / LF is dominating power output. Is there some way of knowing what is considered "normal" for endurance (IM) athletes?

I have searched the Polar site/WWW and found that there should be tools to create reports using RLX data or some other HRV parameter.
I also cant find any view on my RS800 to view R-R data live.

The own optimizer values don’t transfer to Protrainer, do you have to enter them manually??

So, if you can guide me to any resources I would be happy! J

Best Regards

/Peter

I sent you an email as well and have added that the Own Opt results are under TESTS on tool bar. Your R-R will should appear on your watch, update your display on the sofware or on the watch. The RR data is tranferred is download under it's own curve on the day it wa recorded. You will have 2 files for one workout. A good source of Polar Q&A is also available at Yahoo http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Polar-RS_SD_X/ as well as here

Hi, and thanks.

The first problem regarding Own Optimizer values. They dont transfer if you use the button "Connect to device". They do transfer if you use the other one "Syncronize". The value dont transfer to the diary regardless of button pushed, so i guess it has to be edited by hand in the diary togehter with the ortostatic values.

I got the HRV r-r data showing in the RS800, and I have dowloaded the HRV file, that part is Ok. The problem is the postprocessing of the HRV Data and the lack of parameters to show in reports, it seems like this is only available if you use the S810i even if you have the same data in RS800?

Below is an example of a 38min run, the only data (HRV) you can get is the ones below. You cant (or I cant) choose a minute or some other shorter interval to analyse which is a major drawback. What use do you have of the R-R data if you cant analyse it??

Regards

/Peter

Polar is selling its RS 800 and CS600 and their HRV measuring capabilities as a training help... it is... as long as you've got software able to analyze it...which is not the case regarding the Polar Pro trainer.
Polar, skilfully sells its device, as a training guide...mixing in or eluding, the differences between training aid, overtraining detection, optimizer, ownindex, HRV measuring, so you in the end, you don't really know what the thing is bound for...

Own index : is just a way to determine your training zones, which you can easily determine without a embedded HRM software and it will be more accurate...
Own optimizer : is just an orthostatic test, which you can easily do with a basic 40 bucks HRM
HRV and R-R... : well...nice feature... but no way to analyze it except if you are a cardiologist

lots of bling bling...

If you want an HRM which will actually "guide" you through your training taking into account HRV, better buy a Suunto, their software is made for using the feature.

Different manufacturing brands have differnt HRV analysis setups and offer a varying degree of ease of use. In my experience, the simplest setup process comes with BioCom's HRV analysis software. It is easy to setup and even easier to use in day-to-day period.
