Typical posts on different tri boards...
Before I begin, lemme say that I love all 3 (4) boards, they're just a little different flavor, that's all...

TNO:

"I just finished my first brick and I can't understand why my legs feel like that!"

"I can't breathe bilaterally!"

"Can I still do a tri on a road bike?"

"Can I do an IM in my second season of doing tri?"

"Race report -- Finally broke 25 minutes for a 5k"

"I just upped my volume from 7 hours a week to 34 hours and I keep getting sick. What's up with that?"

Slowtwitch:

"Did you see the new designer matte carbon/granite combo on Zarnia's new TT bike?"

"Fixing a dropped chain while decending at 50"

"Compact cranks...can I finally break the 1 hour 40k TT barrier?"

"How many times do you think Mr. Tibbs fell down on his head when he was a kid?"

"Where's oranUtang"

And any thread on campy/shimano or tubular/clincher or empfield/QR/gerard/cervelo or what happened to francois this time or who pissed in Tom D's coffee this morning

Gordo:

"Well, didn't crack the top 5 at IM Moscow, but I felt strong at steady state 569 watts on the bike"

"Question for G: how about an epic camp for paleo eaters only?"

"Way to go Doodes!"

"Testify! First IM RR using G, Going Long"

"Elite race prep week -- Swim sessions example"

Strauss

"Spiz vs. New Castle in T3"
"Training with power"

"Race rehearsal report...it's all good"

I like all the forums as well but to me the difference is in general people only discuss the accomplishments on TNO and SlowTwitch. And on TNO they congratulate anyone for any accomplishment and on Slowtwitch people find a way to talk about themselves.

After a kinda crappy first day as the new anti-christ in tri forum land, you've just put a big smile on my face. Now's a good time to turn off the computer and go to bed. Thanks.

LOL also...

BTW, I don't think Cerveloguy's post was the culprit for this Eastern Hemisphere meets Western Hemisphere sorta forum thing. ...but, wouldn't it just be easier to just blame Alan over at TNO? ;-)

What? No beginnertriathlete.com?

Granted it's a back-pat board with some good info [In no way do I say back-pat in a derogitory way. I've been a member of a weight-lifting back-pat board and loved it]. It has fewer members than TNO, but the members are quite friendly and legitimately in love with the sport. I think Ron and Scott over there are phenominal and have went above and beyond answering any and all questions I ask them.

Check out the articles/programs over there [all distances] ... might surprise you what they've written at a "beginner" site.

Alright, so I shamelessly plugged my sentimental favorite.

-two quotes direct from HID.-

"and on Slowtwitch people find a way to talk about themselves."

"I've taught and coached martial arts for over 15 years and at one time was ranked third in the country. I understand the need for a strong foundation and learning basics but I also believe there is more than one way to learn. I also think there is a lot of uneeded attitude. "

That's a load of crap. I never talk about myself. I would love to spend more time defending myself, but I just don't have the time. You see, I just taught this really hard spinning class, with lots of leg isolations and high tempo work. If I don't get my legs stretched soon, I will have a hard time doing my hill run tomorrow. God, my training is so hard, but worth it, I think. My legs look great - the chicks really dig my quads, can't get enough of them...

thing is if you don't talk about yourself a little bit, people don't know you.
if they don't know you, why would they listen to your advice?

Ok you have probably all seen the following joke before on newsgroups sites dotted around the web - doesn't stop it from being true though (or, for me, making me smile every time I read it)!

==================

How many newsgroup posters does it take to change a
light bulb?

-- 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the
light bulb has been changed

-- 14 to share similar experiences of changing light
bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

-- 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light
bulbs

-- 27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts
about changing light bulbs

-- 53 to flame the spell checkers

-- 41 to correct spelling/grammar flames

-- 6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light
bulb" ...another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

-- 2 industry professionals to inform the group that
the proper term is "lamp"

-- 27 to post URL's where one can see examples of
different light bulbs

-- 14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly
and then post the corrected URL's

-- 12 to post to the group that they will no longer
post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

-- 4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb
FAQ

-- 44 to ask what is a "FAQ"

-- 4 to say "didn't we go through this already a
short time ago?"

-- 3 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before
posting questions about light bulbs"

-- 1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6
months from now and start it all over again

I think that Gordo's forum is what this Forum used to be. (not assigning polarity here, just making observations) If you want to see a forum that has gone through the total evolution, go over to Letsrun.com and peruse their forum and the garbage it contains. 1% practical info about running, 99% insults and topic of the week discussions.

I still love this forum, but I long for the days of yore when I could hop on for 5 or 10 minutes and read everything new that interested me. Now, it's a minimum 1 hour commitment to read 1 thread. Damn, guess I'll have to subscribe to Tibbsy's news letter so I can stay up to date.
