Triple the number of women at WC 70.3 ?
According the the announcement on the main page there will be 4500 participants at 2017 WC

The men and women are on separate days so I am assuming 2250 each day

Currently the split is what ? About 2/3 men, so 1400 men, 700 women ?

Sounds like qualifying for worlds for women just became much more accessible.

If so, well done WTC and Tri Equal.

Not sure why you assume 2250 each day, given there is still proportional slot allocation for AGers, correct? I'm also not sure what TriEqual has affected here.

Likely just more money for WTC.

Actually that is the interesting part : proportionality may go out the window. They are going to have 1500 people race the first day and 3000 the next day ? Doesn't make sense.

My mistake for not reading every thread, with titles that having nothing to do with the topic of slot allocation.
"Lake Placid submitting bid for 70.3 WC" sounds like a logical place to have a discussion on WC slot allocation :-)

+1 LOL. I actually went looking for a thread discussing this.

Next question: any bets on when Kona becomes a 2 day affair?

No he asked about Kona, so 2 17 hour races over 48 hours.

They more or less have to split it by gender. Once you start putting in some of the older men into the first day in order to balance you then get calls of fair competition. My suspicion is that if you were to balance it by day you'd do M18-39 one day and everyone else the next which creates problems for who your overall winner is. An M60-64 might not be able to challenge for the overall, but an M40-44 would be able to. If you have dramatically different weather conditions one day to the next....

Obviously that would mean more money and revenue for WTC, but would the town support it? There have been a lot of threads over the years indicating why this is a bad idea. But if that's the direction we are heading is Kona willing to risk that WTC would move the championship if they refused to hold the event over 2 days? And would WTC be willing to move the championship away from it's historic and iconic location? Stranger things have happened and it has moved once already! And who would have thought that Ironman Canada would have moved after 30 years at Penticton?

Well at least it's only half as long each day.

Logic fail.
