Yea, she looks great, but seems like the photos have nothing to do with the story. Pretty shameless shots; they must want to stir up some controversy....wait for the bitch letters from the female side!

Only because they don't have a body like that.

She's from Rio, right?... probably very comfortable/natural wearing so little.

thats kind of harsh. and ridiculous for that matter.

id complain, being a woman, because though her body may be hot (and it definitely is for a woman in her 40's) , i stand by the fact shes not as pretty as some other women pro's.
we actually had a debate over this at the shop today, one guy said she was really hot, and i say well...shes not. shes just a super skinny woman from south america. but maybe that is your type. nothing remarkable or spectacular about her, shes just an average woman!
however, meyers totally deserved her cover, shes by far the hottest pro woman in this sport

but i guess thats why im not a lesbian!

So do you think she's qualified to be on the cover?

for kicking around in this sport for 20 years and doing kona 20 years consecutively, yes
but not topless and very close to naked, i just see that as gratuitous and demeaning to her talent.

I haven't received the issue yet so I didn't know that she was topless..... However since she's an adult I assume she knew what she was doing... If she doesn't have a problem with it than why should we?

id go with the poster from above, shameless is the word to describe it.
triathlete has been going downhill for a while, more ads and fluff, less and less legit articles and info, its just keeping with the times now.
whatever keeps people buying the magazine i guess.

So, your complaint is discretionary; If they're hot by your standards, that's OK, put em on the cover naked for all I care, otherwise, "Cover up, girlfriend!"

As for Meyers... doesn't do much for me. My tastes run all over the place, but not there.
Fernanda, Desiree, Emma, Sarah Haskins, Sibylle Matter, to name a few, float my boat.

Yea, even though they have nice stock, and the printing's top notch, the gratuitous shots in this issue( and I'm a male), with her topless, and butt-floss bottom, serves little purpose, other than to sell issues. That's why I'm seriously wondering if they did it to create a min-controversy, and in that vein, sell more mags. You know what they say; There's no such thing as bad publicity. Ask Brittney, Anna Nicole, and OJ!

i dont think anyone should be on there naked, wiseass. as noted in my above comment i think its shameless. maybe you just didnt see that reply yet.
k.meyers was in a tri suit, mid race. for her cover. not posing half naked for....no apparent reason.
but again, whatever will make people keep up with their subscriptions.

ps. i think fernanda deserves her cover, for the above reasons. its not that i dont think she should be on the cover. i just think that this one is over the top. why not make that picture of her on the bike the cover?

Marketing. They figure more will buy the mag at full price on the newsstand than will cancel their subscription in disgust.

I agree with that. I think the rag has become as much fluff as Runners World. There's nothing much new month to month – this new bike and its (always glowing) review, a few key race reports, a bio or two, some contrived point-counterpoint about a supposed controversy, a canned training routine that's good fer all ya out there... yawn. Fernanda woke me up.

"I agree with that. I think the rag has become as much fluff as Runners World."

Runner's World and Bicycling are good for about 5 minutes per issue for me (about the time it takes to thumb through it).

And though I don't think that Triathlete is quite on par with these wastes of trees, I do see it going in that direction.

I haven't gotten this particular issue yet, but I think it'll be good for a LOT more than 5 minutes...

I wish I could remember the source, but a couple of years ago bicycling magazine's editor, Bill Stapleton was writing about 'special interest/hobby' journalism and how it gets rather repetitive basically having a finite number of subjects, which is why the Rodale pubs (Bicycling, Runners World, Backpacker, etc) practically rotate through the same subjects every 2-3 years - Better Abs, Climb better, Better nutrition, How to change a flat tire & hot new gear. Lather, rinse, repeat...

At least the two 'major' multisport mags (Triathlete & Inside tri) give the race scene really good coverage. Inside Tri, like its sister pub Velo News, is a little more focused on the race scene and training while Triathlete covers these topics well, but gives it a little more gloss and covers the multisport 'lifestyle' with its always controversial swimsuit issue and articles on race destinations.

I subscribe (and will continue) to both. depending on my mood, the both serve a purpose. If I was an editor at any of these pubs, I'd probably go nuts covering the same subjects over and over...

I'm a little cynical when I see the complaints over the scantily clad athletes wearing 'race attire' that most of us would find a bit uncomfortable. The publishers are betting that the buzz created (both negative and positive) will sell far more copies than then they will lose in the truly outraged. Numbers game, big shock.

I left it face-up on the coffee table. Predictably my husband picked it up. I don't know what he was thinking - well, actually I do - but his comment was "what's up with wearing a bikini and shoes?". I was just impressed that he looked all the way down to her feet :)
