Trail running shoes on the stability/motion control side
Quote | Reply
I've been doing my trail runs in North Face 102's for the past 3-4 years. Very comfy, but I'm starting to have doubts about their stability. Especially now that the planned trail runs are gonna get a lot longer this winter.

In "regular" running shoes, I'm only a mild/moderate pronator but for some reason the most comfy and injury-free shoe for me has been a heavy motion control type (specifically the Brooks Ariel). The less heavy Asics Evolution also works well. The shoes that lean towards motion control seem to prevent IT band injuries for me.

Ideas for trail runners that provide a lot of stability? My details...

Mild/moderator pronator,
Average arch,
Average width,
Toes are widely spread out so I like large toe boxes,
Some of the trails I run are pretty rugged (rocks/roots).

I have tried on the Salomon XA's, Montrail Hardrocks and Vasques and did not find any of the 3 comfortable. But other Montrails have worked for me in the past.

Thanks!

p.s. Where can I look for trail running shoe reviews - besides runningtimes.com?
