I train pretty seriously on a trainer, but I have to say, I get big time reality checks on not just my mental fortitude, but also my fitness when I aim to do 2+ hours on a trainer. I always plan on doing these monster 2-3 hour sessions, but after the 2 hour mark, my back, neck, and mind are just toast. And I can readily do 90 mile outdoor rides with 6000ft of climbing during race season. Trainer is tough. And legit.
All of my weekday riding is on a trainer. About 90 minutes is all I can stand in one session. Usually do intervals to introduce some intensity, break the monotony, and get more 'bang for my buck.'
