TSS based training for a half iron
Looking for guidance on TSS profile for a half iron.

I'm in the final 6 weeks of my training, so probably moot for my next race, but wondering what I should be building up to for a half iron.

Currently averaging 700-750 TSS per week, building up to just over 1000 2 weeks from the race.

I started my build up from base a little late so the slope is steep, at least for me. Highest TSS workout are my Sunday long rides right now around 200-230 TSS, with most other sessions anywhere between 60 and 150.

TSB is currently between -20 and -40 and managing to keep it around that. Business travel helps with that:-)

Hard to say without seeing your data and TSB Floor sound sounds like you may be pushing the limits a bit with your planned upcoming big weeks. Some food for thought, think about influence curves of the training in respect to your racing. You are in the critical window of 12-3 weeks out from the race as we get closer to the race the influence of a training session may actually have no impact on our performance or even have negative consequences on our performance (ie especially the run as we get close).

Take a look at our plan here may help take the guess work out for you - https://www.thetrainingplansource.com/half-ironman-taper-race

Peak (12-3 weeks from target event) – This training time period has the most influence on the performance at the target event. The athlete training program will be very specific to the demands of the race and will include research based concepts for elevating to the highest level of fitness putting a razors edge on the athlete’s fitness.

Taper – (3 weeks – Race Day) – The taper is all about finding balance in the trade of fitness for freshness. We follow principles of an exponential taper where training frequency is maintained, Overall stress is strategically reduced and intensity is slightly increased. The longer the key event the shorter the taper as the trade for fitness for freshness leans heavily on the fitness element and vice versa the shorter the event the longer the overall taper.

"A 2-wk taper during which training volume is exponentially reduced by 41–60% seems to be the most efficient strategy to maximize performance gains." - BOSQUET, L., J. MONTPETIT, D. ARVISAIS, and I. MUJIKA.
