You do realize that this is kind of like posting a thread titled "Naked G/F Pics" only to issue the first post that reads "Show me pics of your g/f naked."

This seems a little early. Still 7 weeks to go until race day. I wouldn't expect everyone to have their race setup all put together until maybe mid-April. Unless you want to see a bunch of bikes on trainers!

Pretty much that but haven't chosen the wheels yet. It might be the Sub-9/404 shown but will likely be sitting on Nimble Crosswinds.

I will be riding this up to watch everyone else on their bikes.

Nice KUOTA, I hope the wind stays home so everyone can run their discs.

I bought it used but think it was one of the early ones. Someone told me that Kuota did a special run of the green ones early on and i was very lucky to find this one. Not a public library, just my living room.

yes, put the race wheels on for the three weeks of taper - know your equipment - don't do/use anything new on race day.
Use them for, at least, all the long rides when preparing for the race.
Race wheels are not dangerously fragile and they shouldnt wear out. you don't use them in training mostly becasue you don't want to damage them in an accident. so, don't use them for the fun group ride but definetly use them for thoses solo (or with a few close friends) 100+ milers. also, check some of the threads on rolling resistance. i believe tires have less RR after broken in with a few hunderd miles.

good luck

yup, training aint cheating.
you have a serious downhill on that course (you do it twice), as i'm sure you know. know how the wheels feel at 40+mph.

good luck

three weeks seems like a lot to me. I definitely wouldn't do three weeks with race rubber. maybe 2 rides just to make sure everything's ready to rock.

Are the race wheels brand new? Even if they are, I can't imagine riding them for three weeks before the race, that's way too long. Riding them in your tune up races should be sufficient to get familiar with them, even if they are new. I assume that LP won't be your first race of the year. If you have nice rubber on them, I wouldn't want to ride them around for three weeks.

Still trying to decide. I can take my training wheels, my 1080 front/sub9 combo, or rent something. I'm thinking I might rent a set of 404's or a 404/808 combo.

The only problem I've ever had with my race wheels was the New Orleans 70.3 last year. I was coasting down a steep bridge at about 35-40 mph when a strong gust of wind hit me from the side and almost blew the bike out from under me.

I'm afraid the same thing will happen in St. George with the long downhill sections. Aero doesn't matter if I'm having to ride the brakes to stay alive. Plus I weighed about 170 then and I'll be 150-155 in May.

I've never had a problem just riding in crosswinds with my race wheels and even use them at very hilly courses like St. Croix, but I'm concerned about long, sustained downhill sections because of that one occurence in New Orleans. I would use them in St. George if I was trying to qualify for Kona, but I'm not a 63 year old woman so my times aren't quite fast enough ;)

Looking at the winds on the ten day forecast (7mph to 21mph) I'll be riding 404's....

I would think St. G bike pjorn pic would be a close up shot of a compact 50x34 rings up front and an 11x26 rear cassette.

Will be down this weekend and I can only hope for winds that slow , everytime I have been there the wind has been crazy. I hope a local we talked to last month is right and the winds die down somewhat towards the end of April.
Can't wait for the 26 mile buffet line.

Bank on it for race day. Bare minimum, even if winds on the rest of the course are calm, there WILL be a south breeze that will make it feel like you are having to work way to hard to go "downhill" back into SG from Veyo.

Wind is a sure thing on May 1st.

I hope you're right, I would rather a tail wind going uphill
