the quake was just off the solomon islands accordng to news reports.

the pacific ring of fire has been busy as of late, quakes in japan, quakes here and plenty in between those two areas.

is the ring merely venting pressure or are we looking toward a major event somwhere soon?

Amazing how we hear of it first on ST. We were told that NZ was on a "Tsunami Watch", but there still doesn't seem to be any method of warning the populace here if something big is really on the way.

FYI- living on the coast I subscribed to this one about a year ago...

I got about 8 different notices from the earthquake today...
