Background:
So last year I had planned on doing my first full distance race at Michigan Titanium; and it ended with a DNF at mile 14 on the run. Decided to go back this year and "tri" (sorry) it again this year, and it ended up being the national championships. Come race morning they decide to shorten it to a half due to potential lightning in the afternoon. I had a goal of going 11.5-12 hours for the full and ended up going 5:35 for the half, so I'm by no means an "elite" racer, the winner went 4:18.
Situation:
I get my email this afternoon saying I've qualified for Team USA to race in Almere next year, and am weighing out my pro and con list on whether I should go
Pros:
- I may never get the chance to be on any Team USA for anything again
- Could be kind of cool
- Not my fault faster people didn't show up
Cons:
- Expense
- I'm not really all that fast. I may be able to train my ass off and get down to a <11 or so hour goal time, but there's not way I'm touching the times of the best
What's the play here? From other threads it's almost more a "festival" type atmosphere? Worth it?
Thanks
