Too long is okay since you get a second chance, too short.......... means you're looking for a new frame.
Not quite true. If you find you have cut it too short, or you maybe want to change your fit a little then there is a original Scott seat raise kit, basically a shaped piece (like a thinner piece of the seat post with a lip on it) that you add spacers to and slot up inside the seat post before lowering it into the frame.
The plastic spacers come in 5, 3, 2, and 1mm increments I think, adding up to 1cm in height. I got Scott to send me one for about $20.
Failing that, keep hold of the excess cut from your seat posts. I had a couple of chunks 5mm and 10mm cut just in case. Simply glue them in place at the foot of the seat post and you're good to go.
I have also had the seat post held more than well enough using just the bolt … although that is obviously not preferential. The newer frames have a 'grip' painted onto the seat posts which helps. My original frame did not, the warrantied one does.
For various different reasons I have tried all of the above methods and all work fine. But if you do decide to bin the farm feel free to mail to me, I will pay postage. :)
