Ride Routes in/near Lynchburg Va
I'll be visiting the fam in Lynchburg over Easter and would like to get in a couple days of riding. Can anyone recommend some decent routes? I am looking for something in the 80 - 200K range.

Thanks,
SM

SM,

I teach in Amherst, about 15 miles north of Lynchburg. To be honest, there is not much there as far as road riding goes.

Most folks in Lynchburg ride out toward Wiggington Road and Coffee Road; also northo of town you can go on Wright shop road for a long ways. Also, talk to the folks at Bikes Unlimited

and Blackwater Bike Shop.

They should have some printed routes.

If it were me, I'd go over to the Blue Ridge and ride there. Best of luck!

Thanks for the info.

Are you talking about the Blue Ridge Parkway?

I'll have a car with me and I'd be willing to drive an hour or so to find nice roads.

Best,
SM

If you're willing to drive an hour, yes, do the Blue Ridge Parkway. Also, you can drive to Charlottesville. Lots of rides there (check cvillebike.com for a few). The Blue Ridge Pkwy is some of the best cycling in the country.

Here's a good book:

Agree with the Coffee Road post. Head out on Coffee (Coffee is off of 501 north) towards Bedford County and you will hit some beautiful terrain. Lots of rollers.

Continue north out of Lynchburg on 501 and you'll hit the Blue Ridge Parkway (about 10 miles north). Take a left on the Parkway, and you'll begin the 13 mile climb to "Thunder Ridge." Turn around and for the descent and it's roller-coaster white knuckle time. Woo Hoo! A right on the Parkway is pretty nice as well.

Just moved away from that area, and miss the hell out of it. Never ridden in a nicer area.
