Question re: Craig Alexander
I believe that Craig Alexander is sponsored by Orca and his race kit has huge Orca writing all over it. However, I was looking at the cover of the Triathlete magazine the other day and took a close look at the race kit and it appeared to have scales on the shorts, sort of like the Speedo Fastskin and LG Sharkskin material, which is supposed to be more hyrdodynamic. In fact, the Tri Dubai race kit that he wears looks like a rebadged LG kit. I'm wondering if he's wearing some sort of prototype Orca kit or if it's the 2007 Orca line? I wore the Orca Elite top and bottom in 2005 and I don't think the 2006 version was any different. Anyone?

I don't know if you can see closely in the picture above, but it looks like a different material than the Orca Elite line.

Its LG! Also check out Cam Browns unit. He is a Nike athlete, but is also in a LG unit. Tri Dubai had a deal with LG....funny, since each athlete was under other clothing contracts. I would love to be the sponsor paying my athlete to slap a logo on my competitors garmet!

LG is an official sponsor of the Tri-Duabai team, so they are probably just rebadged LG outfits.

LG makes either all of the Tri Dubai kit or most of it that I have seen. At the INterbike show, they showed examples of all the Tri Dubai variations for the different team members. Orca may be more of an "image" sponsor and provide him with wetsuits.

Since Nike doesn't sell triathlon clothing yet, is there really a loss there? He still wears their do-rag (sp?), shoes and sunglasses.

Think of a triathlete's race suit like a NASCAR car. Just because it says Orca or Nike on it doesn't mean Orca or Nike is saying "Hey, we made this clothing." They might make his wetsuit or shoes or something and on top of wearing that stuff they get to put their name on his clothing, they aren't rebadging anything, just buying ad space.

No one accuses Viagra or Tide of rebadging Ford's or Chevy's and claiming they make the car. Think of it like that.

Crappy analogy.

Orca actually makes racing suits for triathlon. Tide doesn't make cars.

Do you think Chevy would let one of their racing teams rebadge a Ford? I don't think so.

Well it suited the guy who originally asked the question, sorry it couldn't do the same for you.

Have a good night.

Yeah, but if a team asked to rebadge a Ferarri as a Chevy, I bet they'd allow that. ;)

the simple answer is that they use L.G. since orca do not do full sublimation, and that is what they needed for the tri dubai uniforms.
i cant blame orca really, because when you sublimate, it really takes away from the quality of the material in the way of comfort, breathability and moisture management.
professional athletes have commitments however, and need to make a living.
if you look at some world champs pictures, you will see Craig wearing 2XU with no other logos. now thats a tough one to swallow for a sponsor, when a national team is supported by another brand, and you get no logo at all.
