Question about racing and DEXA bone density scans
Quote | Reply
I have bone density issues in my lumber vertebrae. Because of this, I get an annual DEXA bone density scan, with the values varying on either side of the magic -2.5 number (which is the cut-off for osteoporosis).

My next DEXA scan is scheduled for 3 days after I run my goal marathon. I know not to have any blood work done within a few days of a big race - the values will be thrown off. My question is if anyone knows whether the same holds true for bone density scans, and if I should postpone.

[and yes, I am asking this question of my doctor as well - the issue is that it's very hard to get in touch with her, and I don't have confidence that her staff will relay the question clearly to her, or get back to me with an answer].
