I am very familiar with road gearing, just not sure how it's going to translate offroad. I ride 53/39 with 12-25 on training TT bike, 55/42 with 11-28 on racing TT rig, 53/39 with 12-25 on road bike.
I am essentially trying to get the quarq to work as close as possible to my road setup, understanding that I won't have a 2x to fall back on but will have a bit more generous cassette in 11-32. At the same time, I'd love to be able to use the quarq in cross/gravel style situations but understand that 50-52T is likely too much for those applications, but I'll also have the stock crankset (40T lacking power) to fall back on if this blows up in my face. I could also keep trying different chainrings until I get it right but I'm hoping somebody else uses their 1x cross bike in a similar fashion and can help me Goldilocks it on the first try.
DSza2508, were you able to convert your Quarq S975 to a 1X? I'm thinking of doing the same. I have a S975 (GXP 50-34 Compact with 172.5 arms) on my tri bike, and I'm just not riding that bike as much. So I'm thinking of putting the Quarq on a cyclocross bike that I'm riding a bit more. I think it would be a fairly easy swap, as I think the bottom bracket on my cyclocross bike is GXP right now. So I think all I'd need to do is swap the chainrings, get it calibrated and then install it. Just wondering if it worked out ok for you.
