Gerry was absolutely incredible in his prime, which unfortunately came just before Pre, so he was somewhat overshadowed. At Rogers H.S. in Spokane he was totally dominant especially in Cross Country. Guy had a couple screws loose though, and a bad family situation, both conspired to have him running as much as 50 miles a day (no misprint) at times. He regularly logged 200+ mile weeks back then.

Gerry is a genuine crackpot of a guy and he is so crazy I love him. I contend that no one including Monte, Paul T, or Souza could even carry his bags when he was in Highschool. I don't think any triathlete alive has even close to his palmars.
8:40 2 mile indoors (Highschool)
4:01 HS mile in early 60 (New tracks probably put it at a 3:55 ish
13:44 5k
He won I think 11 0f 12 NCAA titles that he ran in while in college.
That guy was the real deal. Yea he totally messed up, but he also led the charge for professional prize money in road racing. As an athlete I have total respect for the dude. Not to sure what to think of the movie, he also has a medical condition.
