Poll - Greatest single days in bike racing.

I wasn't around to watch King Eddy, I can only think back to about 1985. but in my short life here are the top 5. No particular order. I've picked these because these come to mind first, and therefore have made a great impression.

1) 1989 - Lemond's Final TT into Paris

2) 1989 - Lemond's World Championship win. (in the days when ALL the big guys were at the Worlds.)

3) 1993 - Indurain's ride through the very small mountains of Belgium towing Bruyneel

4) 2001 - Armstrong - Alpe-dHuez

5) 2006 - Floyd's ride.

I'd add Hampsten over the Gavia Pass in the '88 Giro and hamilton's stage 16 win in '03 with a broken collarbone.

It was through the Belgian Alps. They are very small mountains.

Bernard Hinault winning the ITT in TdF 1981. I was seven and I watched the tour with my grandpa. Hinault started last (since he was already wearing the yellow jersey) and won the stage: I didn't understand the concept of seeding at the time and his going from last to first impressed me a lot.

Assuming it should be contemporary to my cycling "awareness"...

Either that LBL or Hampsten/Gavia/Giro, if I have to pick one. Hinault's win came at the very beginning of my "awareness" of cycling as something other than pea-picker vs cement brick-plywood ramp... By the time Hampsten's Giro came around I was following Euro pro cycling as much as was possible at that time here in the states...

Lemond/Fignon/TdF TT '89 and now Floyd's TdF ride are close...but not quite there.

There has to be at least one Spring Classic "Monument" that I'm forgetting...probably something with Sean Kelly involved...
