Palomar Climb question
Renting bike for a Saturday ride in San Diego area. Thinking about doing Palomar hill climb. Is that a bad idea for starting at say 11:00 am or 12:00 pm on a Saturday. I know it is popular with crazy motorcyclists.

Where are you starting from? At the corner of Highway 5 or further up. Personally I'd start as early as possible. Those motorbike guys are indeed nuts but you can hear them long before they get to you.

At the casino was the plan. Renting bikes, and can't get them until 10 in San Diego, hence the late start.

I'm sure I'll hear them. Not sure what that will help me with though;)

It's like the motorcycles almost break the sound barrier, you hear them and they are passed you. For the most part they handle the bike as long as they keep the rubber side down. Makes me nervous using the full road on the way down though.

A motorcycle isn't much faster on most of that decent than a bike. Just remember that they corner differently as they can accelerate through . Btw only one right gander needs brakes on the way down , have fun!

It's the first few rooty corners that I worry about, the motorcycles have enough rubber they don't care. too many bad experiences braking through them. My roady buddy says it's the brakes that are my problem. I am a decent mountain biker and good bike handler for a triathlete. But most good roadies drop me pretty bad through there.
