Side note that not a ton of people know, but Magura still makes a ton of the hydro mtb rim brakes. I thought that was pretty cool that you could order a new set today.

Didn't know that, mine were actually on a Cannondale mountain tandem, what's (or where) the current app?

edit to add that the new Maguras are pretty svelte and sexy. Reminiscent of the old Modolos.

Tom, come on, get real, you know that tubing is reqiured to get there. Do you really think they cross drilled the whole frame.

Of course not...but that's not the point. Tubing is perfectly fine to use in spans that don't require anything else. However, at locations where tight turns may be advantageous, that's where hydraulic fittings shine and wire cables struggle.

Even so...if someone WANTED to cross-drill a frame, or embed a fluid passageway, they could...and internal "kinks" would be no problem.

Mountain biking world already has rear derailleurs that don't require a 'loop'. Wouldn't be that hard to design such a thing for road use.

I know but no one has done it yet for road. WHY?

Inertia. Pure and simple.

Performance on a mtb RD setup this way is marginally lower for me, but there are likely other factors at work for me (i.e. 11-32 cassette). I just picked up a direct-from China MTB frame with internal routing for shifting AND hydraulic brake lines... pretty slick package.

with a long lever like you have on a road shifter, would it not be easier to move the RD?

I think he means the inertia of industry standards

Well I can see that. I honestly thought that the new Sram Red would take some design influences from XX

Wrong type of inertia ;-)

Well the Magura press release is up on their website and contains pricing for both the RT8TT and RT6TT (think the main diff is the 8 has carbon levers the 6 alu) £352 and £282 doesn't seem that unreasonable to me for levers, brake hoses and calipers. It does exclude brake pads/shoes though.

5year no leak guarantee. 495g the set. Available in June.

SRAM red calipers are £290 which makes the Magura's look like a bargain!

next time you go riding, grab and release your front brake, hard, four or five times in quick succession. Feel what happens in your arms. Then imagine you're not in control of the pulses.

Does ABS still sound like a good idea?

yes, because it doesn't HAVE to pulse. that is just the easy way to do it =)

Well I did what you suggested, and I went over the bars all five times...which is why ABS is a great idea. ;) Even the pulsing method occurs multiple times per second, and would be good. They've gotten it sorted for motorcycles, and for MTB, it would be a huge leap forward to able to ride fast deeper into corners. I would not really like that, because it would be like traction control on the F1 cars, a technological improvement that takes a particular skill that some riders (drivers) have more of than others, and removes it from the equation.

Here are details about the P5

The p5 tri frameset for 6500??? Ouch scratch that idea. Di2 for 10k doesnt seem bad though which leaves me quite confused why the frameset is so much.

WTF, it shows the two different frames and configuration options, but doesn't describe what the differences are.

The fork ("Three" vs "Six")
Brakes (Tekro Rear Mech vs Magura RT8)
Stem (??? vs 3T Aduro)

Those differences add $2K to the frame. !!!

Cervelo's website says it is 30s faster over 40k. 30s faster than what?

I'm guessing the P4? That's pretty small I'd say.

They also don't say which version of the P5 they're referring to.

This is some shitty information after all this wait.
