Yeah, is it just me, or is the resolution worse than it has been in the past?

I thought so, too. Click on the 4 bars in the lower right corner and change the resolution.

Same here. It's OK full screen (no pixelation for me) but not great. Small screen is really crisp, though.

weren't no sub-5s back then, save john howard's 4:55. monty can tell you exactly, but i believe the course was a little longer than 112mi, because we had to stop a couple of times during the ride to get weighed in, and i think one of those times we deviated on the way back and rode into waikoloa//

Howard did a 5;03, so no sub 5's back then. But the course was a 115 miles, so he in reality did about a 4;55, that is probably what you were thinking. And we went down to Hapuna beach on the way out and the way back for a weigh in. That added a couple of the miles, the rest was going fully into the town of Hawi, then doing a right turn in town up to a gas station for another weigh in. I think it is safe to say with the 4 actual weigh ins and the extra 3 miles, our course was at least 12 to 15 minutes long. That puts john at about a 4;50, right where one would expect him, and the rest of us at about 5;20 or so.

And i have a lot of footage of the media van, Kim and i had it to Havi, and they never were in front of us. They were told to stay on the side or behind that first year. There was no other traffic, save for island traffic either. I think they only had 3 vans and they had to space them out to get footage from all the spots they wanted to cover. They used a ton of helicopter footage back in the day, it was much easier and the moto close up was not yet in vogue.

Same for me. I'm wondering if the live feed has a resolution cap.

Thanks for that. 480 is much better than the default.

Kind of ironic that GoPro is a sponsor.

But as a fan of the sport. I want good pictures of the race.

I remember when they would comment on the pier being 2 million dollars and now they refer to the pier at 20 million dollars. Oh how things have changed.

I am more excited to watch this year's edition than any other year since I've been watching (2002). Lots of contenders and lots of stories to track. Rock on!

Very glad that Michael Lovato and Matt Lieto are back together. I'm a big fan of Lovato's insight, humor, etc.

good commentary. Men are split into two groups, looks like a lot of big names missed that lead group. Couldn't have been that fast either, lot of guys still up there and potts is not driving it. Frondeno is up front by default now, but i bet potts takes over towards the end to make sure it is a manageable bike group. But a definite split and it is going to look like an ITU race on the bike for quite awhile i bet..

I wonder if there are any gopro-sponsored athletes?
If so, I hope they dont focus on them for the entire race (like the 5 hours of the trek-sponsored athletes a year of two ago).

I also wonder what Ironman merchandise they'll push on us

It looks like, for all practical purposes, the swimmers didn't get the gap expected. Potts still comes out first.

Awesome, two of my picks are right up there out of the swim (Jacobs and Alexander). No surprise that Potts was first out of the water.

Potts not as hot as many thought. So many people with him this time. I see him getting shelled and kicked out the back on the bike. Too many better bikers in that front group.

I don't know, looks like a good gap to the 2nd group with all the top 5 favorites. A lot of guys made this lead group because like i said, andy did not swim up front until the end. HE split off the back 1/3 of that lead group, so they have to hammer to catch up. But Andy has his lead bike group to ride in now, exactly like i believe he planned..

Potts will also have people to bike with. Sorta new to him, at least in the first 5 miles of the ride

It's amazing how inconsistent Andy Raelert's swim is. Horrible last year, front group this year.

Nice swim by Crowie too

Quite a front group and some very strong cyclists up there - Starky, Marino...

Frodeno goes straight into the bike lead.
