Apolo Ohno's bike split 5:10

And people like to complain about the WTC giving away slots to celebs.
1:00:28 swim and 5:10 bike is right up there with the top level athletes in his AG that qualified. His free slot so far is very much deserved. Good on him.

I think qualifying for Kona is a bit easier than winning a handful of Olympic medals, so I think the slot is also deserved.

DQ for Ryf? Don't the WTC rules require men & women's torso to be completely covered?

ITU but not WTC

Not sure about that. Being an gold medalist Olympian has its benefits? No, that's not right, don't know. But chocolate milk is sure getting some promotion. :)

"Yes, his preparation in speed skating just carried over to Kona."

You'd be surprised (apparently) what carries over from seemingly unrelated disciplines.

Right. I knew that his mental preparation that garnered him those gold medals would be put to use to prepare for triathlons and Kona. Good on him for making a good showing.

Has anyone else seen Andreas Raelert's splits so far on the leaderboard? Are those correct? If so, then he's on track to blow through Kienle.

I think short track speed skaters do a good bit of cycling work as cross training in the off season.

last split i saw for ralert shows he maybe has blown. Right now if things are right, potts is now in 5th and still moving forward. Keinle has to literally blow for anyone to touch him. Announcers are getting all excited that freddy is gaining 11 seconds a mile, but do the math guys. Maybe at 1;11 a mile he will catch, but that means keinle is sitting down somewhere..

I know! But the tracker isn't showing any updates for AR anymore for me. FOr everyone else yes. AR no. :(

So scared of breaking it that you won't let it bend.

Optimistic, considering the depth of sub-3 talent that's over 5 minutes ahead of her...

LOL...I"m not optimistic...Mirinda is optimistic whenever she is 15-20 min down and she backs it up. I am not sure which sub 3 hour runners you are referring to in front of her...there are almost none as far as Kona goes.

Looks like Caroline is the one running fastest? From down 10.30 at start of the run to only down 6.45 now? That's more ground made up on Daniela than what Rinny has gained?

I think Ralert must have missed a mat at 13, either that or he is sitting down..

Yep, I'd say it worked out pretty darn well for these two examples:

If they don't have enough cameras I wish they would at least take the motorcycle camera off Ryf and Kienle for a few minutes and drop back to show us some of the other athletes. With Kienle's 8 min lead, he isn't going to lose it anytime soon so we aren't going to miss anything.

According to Jesse Thomas' twitter, Raelert rested at an aid station for "3ish" minutes.
