According to Lieto "..she gets a mental advantage wearing a road helmet."

Because her coach told her not to.

They were saying it was a decision between her and her coach in order to keep her cooler.

"Anyone know why Daniela Ryf isn't wearing an aero helmet?"

It's personal preference. There are some (many? All on ST forum?) who think that aero is everything. There are some (many?) who think that being cooler- especially on a hot, humid course is more important.

SO she doesn't cook her brain for 20 seconds.. Body temp management is the 4th event at this race.. Aero advantage is somewhere around the 10th event..

OK, Crowie is only 10 min out of top 5. I put him at top 5 after that run this spring in Melbourne. The first person who generally outruns Kienle is 13 min back (Ralaert, but not recently) and Van Lierde would need to run 2:47 if Kienle can run 2:55. Frodo needs to run a 2:42 if Kienle can run 2:55. If Kienle runs close to 2:50, it will be hard to catch him....hopefully his injury holds off. Marathon is a long way though!

Yes, someone tell him to calm down...he is running the same pace on Alii drive as Dave Scott and Mark Allen...except Kienle only needs to run 2:53 for the win, not 2:40.

Keinle is out running everyone around him except Freddy. Looks like he is running 10 sec a mile faster at the moment. HE will need more than that at some point to make the catch before 26.2 rolls up..

On another note, not looking good at all for all the recent ITU transplants. Hawaii is such an unforgiving place, it spits in the face of speed… )-;

You're so right. I would have put money on Ivan Rana and he's way off the back too. ITU speed transfer is valuable but the endurance takes time.

He got a $1500 bike prime and prolly knew he wasn't going to be in contention, so he backed off and is having fun.

Really learning a lot from broadcast. Didn't know that athletes like Ben Hoffman are at risk of being "cold" during the run.

He's looking good, rocking that hat safari style. Hope to see him podium today.

All these guys are overcooking it. Mark Allen and Dave Scott had the tactics tuned in. Watch the youtube from 1989. These guys were way slower and were barely running at Marino's pace, but they closed at Frodo's pace. Someone tell Tim O'Donnell to slow down, or he will have an entire winter having the slowest run split in his family! I bet Rinny's final run split ends up being faster than half of these guys. Sheesh, they should sign up for an Endurance Nation or QT2 plan...Patrick or Jesse would whip them back down to the right pace! Why do pro triathletes start off at unsustainable paces when compared to pro marathoners who just dial it in even.
