Occy's IMFL Race Report -- I DID IT!!!
:) :) :)

Hot damn, I actually did it. I wasn't sure until mile 12 or so on the run if I'd make it or not, by the time I got through the turn around though, I knew I was going to finish.

http://occy.net/ironman

Go to the above URL for the FULL-ON race report.

I did get to see Dan (Heavy [Medium???] D) and Nick as well. I wish I could have met some other slowtwitchers, but with family here and everything it was a bit crazy. Who knows, maybe I'll hit the party tonight if I can.

Again, I can't say thank you enough to everyone here for the support and kindness you have showered on me. I even know think I can possibly do this again. Hell, I feel I could probably go sub-13 if I trained right and didn't get sick.

I could not BELIEVE I did a sub-6hr Marathon. Especially after blowing up on the bike. heh. I calmed down, regrouped and just took it easy, but never really stopped moving.

Status of The Giant:
I have actually been contacted by the original owner of the bike (the one that gave it to Jonathan originally) and he says he has a friend that wants to get into Triathlons. I am going to be sending him the bike back probably in the next couple of weeks. I think it is great that the bike will be able to go on and help someone else get into the sport of Triathlon.

Regarding my triathlon career:
Hell, I LOVE this stuff!!! I think going long is where it's at. I can see me shooting for a sub-14 on my next IM distance race. And then maybe in a few years trying to go sub-13! Maybe that'll be my goal before I'm 40. ;) [37 now] I'm going to do the rock and roll 1/2 Ironman again this summer, and will probably do at least 1 HIM each year.

Soooo... I'm pumped and ain't going nowhere.

Maybe now I can convince Dan we need to have an IRC chat where we can all talk in real time. I tried to do it once but without slowman's support and it being an "official" thing, I don't think it's going to get off the ground.

Anyhoo... thanks tons again gang. I love you peeps. :)

No, Dude. The feeling of the last half mile. The screaming people. The music blending together as you passed the boomboxes, Mike Reilly's (or Ziebart's) announcing in the background, the lights of the city coming up, the little kids holding out their hands for high five's, the tunnel vision as you come down the chute?

Hey Trae,
CONGRATS!!!!
Getting out on that run is such a mental game to continue. Good job breaking through the barriers, and I'm not talking just the race - everything you've done leading up to it. Keep it going, my friend!

Hehe, yeah, I tried to play it up. back and forth to the different people. I think next time I'm going to juggle my way down the end chute. :) I was juggling three glow stick rings, but I'd drop them every once in a while and it was PAINFUL to bend over and pick them up. If I had balls, I wouldn't drop em'.

It was a blast bud.

Thanks Jim! ;)

I did enjoy it and if I wouldn't have promised my wife I'd take 2006 off, I probably would be signing up this morning for another race. :)

Yeah, it was indeed fun. At the end though, I remember thinking... "This is it?" Heh. I felt like I could have gone much further. And if I would have trained better, who knows what the human body can do.

Anyhoo... thanks again HS. ;)

Ironmom1 and Jerm...

Yeah, I do feel like I could do just about anything. Heck, Given enough time, money and the proper health, I think just about anyone, if they can stay disiplined, can do anything.

As far as running the other 5k... It's nice to talk stuff, it's another thing to do it.

Seriously though, today I wasn't feeling too bad, though my girls were able to run away from me successfully, something they can't do normally. :)

Thanks again for the kudos!

I keep thinking in my head... You know, I could probably go sub-13 easily... :)

Yes, it will be a day I'll remember.

The funny thing is, it still doesn't compare to say the birth of my two daughters. For some reason, I thought the trumpets would blow, the seas would part and I would be enlightented. In some ways I was. I was shown what is possible. I have now also set the bar. It is up to me to raise it.

No biggie. Family first. You have your priorities right, and it's great you haven't shoved the image of the birth of your two daughters aside.

Sub 13 hours is my next goal too. Time to work at this 'getting faster' thing people around here keep talking about all the time. ;-)

Congrats man. Monk and I did IMF last year and it was a blast. It was my first one. I'm glad that after all that lame debate after tibbs gave you the bike that it all worked out and you finished that Ironman. That's awesome. Keep it up. I'm glad TSR is working after all.

Nice going Trae. Sounds like you had a blast!

I checked out your website .... cute girls, man (from one daddy to another).

======================

Quick questions about The Giant ... was it understood that you were just "using" the bike for the race? I'm trying to get a grasp on that particular situation.
