New rubber on the bike, and now a new noise...
OK, I'm going nuts...

I just slapped some new rubber on my bike for IM Moo, and now when I climb out of the saddle and the bike gets laid over on its side, I get a noise like somebody is plucking a spoke. It was never there before. I've never had a noise like this before. Any ideas? I opened up the brakes, I completely flipped the cyclometer magnet-thingy out of the way, I checked every spoke, and still, I get the noise. I uninflated and reinflated the front tire, I opened and tightened both QRs, and still, I get the noise. Crap!! I'm heading off to the race early tomorrow morning, so can't bring it in to a bike shop this evening. Guess I'll just have to bring it to the dudes who are wrenching at the race expo if its still doing it. Can it just be a new tire settling in? For the record, I just put on Michelin Pro Race 2s.

Did you put new tubes? If so, the valve stem may be "tapping" the rim. If it is a valvestem with threads, thread the little round nut on and snug it just enough to keep the valve stem from wiggling and tapping the rim.
Or double check the computer magnet on the wheel and the reciever on the fork. Make sure they aren't touching.

Tried both, no dice. Annoying noise still there. Thanks, though.

It really sounds like the front wheel.

Just confirmed it...swapped front wheels with my other bike...noise gone. Guess I'll try reinstalling the new tire when I get to Madison tomorrow and see if that helps. If not, I'll bring it to the Inside/Out dudes.

Did you try putting your new tire on your other rim and seeing if you get the problem on your other rim? I don't see how that could really be the case, but I'm anal like that so probably would have given it a try just for S&G.

[reply]thread the little round nut on and snug it just enough[/reply]

I always heard that it is a lot safer NOT to put the little nut on, although I have completely forgotten why...
