can you race in new shoes right away after buying or is there a break-in period?

With my Asics Foundations there is generally a 6-10 mile break in period where I get hot spots on the soles of my feet.
My Brooks Racer ST4 & 5 are ready to go out of the box.

Of course you can.
If the race was >10k I probably wouldn't do it just for the fact that you don't really know what a new pair of shoes is going to do to your feet (blisters/rubbing/etc) until you run in them.
You could wear them for an easy jog the day before the race.

but like someone else said...maybe a little break in before a marathon....

Thanks! I forgot to ask that part, I am buying the same shoe.

I get blisters from zoots without breaking them on first when going sockless. That would be my only concern. I love them after that.

in that case I'm sure it's fine. your foot will be adapted, unless they've somehow DRASTICALLY altered the shoe layout
