New QR frame under Matt Hanson

I was watching todays race coverage and noticed Matt’s QR looked different from his V-PR. Wider front fork with brake cover, new top tube design with internal hydration and maybe storage, similar looking to Canyon Speedmax.

I was in the market for a V-PR, now I'm definitely waiting 😀.

Yes, looks interesting. I remember when the V-PR came out reviewers were not "wowed" and considered it be a relatively conservative evolution from the PRSix2. At the same time, the updated Canyon Speedmax, Trek Speed Concept and Scott Plasma 6 were also released and had more integration and more frame design innovations.

The downtube doesn't look as big as the Canyon Speedmax, so I wonder how much fluid the frame can hold? I would also assume there's a refilling port on the top tube for the internal bladder, but if so, does that leave room for top tube storage?

The cockpit is also interesting, as the extensions look similar to Tririg's Scoops Ultimate extensions. But Matt has the extentions on his old bike and he tagged Drag2Zero in another IM post (although I can't find these components on D2Z's website). Regardless, I do not expect to find this cockpit on the bike when it becomes available to consumers.

Regarding the cockpit, it's a drag2zero prototype. Gustav Iden was riding it at Kona last year as well (at which time, d2z said it would be released early 2023)

As per QR it’s still a prototype testing some new designs. More to come next year.

Who's your source, Bryan? ;-) I may or may not be boarding a plane tomorrow for Nice to drop some 411 at a short Friday press event. Ryan/Eric/Dan you're invited. But Eric has to cook the tri tip...

Release was delayed but I've been told its very imminent.

A mutual friend when I asked her if I could put that front fork on my VP-R! LOL! That thing looks slick!

Confirmed in the GTN video (near end) that it's still being tested: Hottest Tech At The Men's Ironman World Championships 2023 Pt. 2 - YouTube

I'm curious about the internal hydration system and top tube storage solution. It's worth noting that the front Aeria hydration unit was a major drag reduction win for the VP-R. I wonder how this will compare.

Why not both? Reduced need to stop or to refill. Of course you have to keep track of all the straws!

Yes but without proprietary front end.

Glad the fork has grown, the old bike fork was too skinny making the frame look unbalanced.

I like the non drive side chain stay, but the driveside stay looks goofy. And the lack of symmetry is off putting.

I think QR would be better off with a simpler design.

It is skinny and odd looking. But I believe Slowman opined that in his QR years, with forks it was fast it if was wide and close to the wheel OR skinny and wider around the wheel. The VP-R is defiantly the later. I think they went wider here in order to accommodate the front brake fairing.

Asymmetry is kinda QR's thing. Sorta like Pinarello, folks who don't like that probably aren't going to be big fans of their bikes.

Who's going to be riding the new frame in Kona this weekend? I'm looking forward to some additional pictures of this one in the "Kona '23 Bikes" series <hint, hint @rrheisler>. :)
