New Hour Record Attempt

Matthias Brande is set to attempt the hour record this evening in Switzerland. He currently rides for IAM Cycling and had some good late season form so wants to put his name in the books.

How do you think he fairs against Jens' mark?

He will be using a retrofitted Scott Plasma 5, and a short tail Giro helmet. He plans to ride a 55x13.

Live stream will be on the UCI Youtube channel, and set to happen at 2pm EST I believe.

It's on at 7 PM winter time here in Europe be sure to check whether you're not tuning in an hour late ;) Will be interesting to see, also noteworthy the marked difference in publicity between Voigt and Brandle, obviously also having to do with the difference between the riders and their careers. Can he do it? I think he wouldn't try it if he didn't think he could, so it will be interesting.

Can't believe this isn't getting more tractions. I'm a Jensie fan like any other but I'm still stoked to see someone else have a whack at this. Youtube is a no-go at the office. Anyone want to do a play by play?

They were just talking about this, I guess he tried the same 250 track that Jens used but preferred the feel of the 200m.

Edit: They were saying the 200m track had wider or less extreme turns than the 250m.

Giro has had this helmet for pro teams for a few years, some sort of modified selector. I've seen Cadel use it for BMC, and Garmin had them before they switched over to POC helmets. Never seen them on the market though.

He's starting to hurt.

Wise move to do this now. He likely knows he can break the record, so get the name in the books before Wiggins/Cancellara/Martin put the bar out of reach. Now or never, so he's going for it. Good on him.

Jens is history, same with this guy when Wiggo gives it a shot next summer. He did a 45 minute test run around 52-52.5kph, according to the live feed, so i would safely assume he will not blow up at the current rate. Would not be surprised to see around 52.7-52.9, even 53 flat if he can really ramp it up the last 10 minutes.
