New Farallons swim record

Pretty amazing, only the second person to complete a swim from the Farallon Islands to Golden Gate. 30 miles of rough, cold water. Makes me re-calibrate the definition of "hard"

Man, 14 hrs of 53-56 degree water with no wetsuit, brrrr!!! I think I could maybe, possibly if fully rested, swim for 14 hrs in nice 82 degree water, but no way I'd survive 14 hrs in 55-ish water. Wow, that was one brutal swim!!!

Ya, I wonder if he gained weight progressively over the 7 attempts, it would be very interesting to see his weight across the 7 swims. I think I'd need to gain 40-50 lbs to be able to survive 14 hrs in 55-ish water.

Not to mention avoiding the Great Whites that hang out at the Farallons.

Is that a gang?

Did he have a support crew with shark repellent tech? Yeah, unnerving to swim with those things lurking around...

I went on a Great White Cage Dive a few years back. It was eerie. We didn't see any sharks while in the cage but after our dives, we "trolled" a surfboard in back of the boat, which was almost immediatley attacked by a large Great White.

I seriously doubt he used a wetsuit or anything similar.
Not allowed in marathon swimming.
Those that train for it can do it.
