NYC-area athletes: new race directors at New York Triathlon for 40th anniversary season
Quote | Reply
For those in the metro area who like short course races at affordable prices run by locals, check out New York Triathlon https://nytri.org/. 2024 will be this not-for-profit org's 40th year of racing. Unlike Life Time they actually run successful triathlons here in New York and have been doing so forever. The current race director is retiring, and the two new guys taking over are in their 30's, filled with enthusiasm and good ideas, athletes from a new generation who founded their own tri club in Queens and are super excited for the future at the helm of NYTRI. I was lucky to sit down and do an interview with them recently which if you're interested you can find in my sig. I am not part of NYTRI but for two years I've raced with them and every dollar was well spent. Basically the takeaway here is: exciting news for the tri-state area duathlete or triathlete. And if you aren't local these races are a great excuse to visit NYC for a weekend for some racing and tourism. Look forward (not in 2024, but whenever Parks Dept finishes the construction at the Harlem Meer) to full triathlons (pool swim) in Central Park again, something which disappeared some years back but would provide a spectacular, magical, and shockingly affordable NYC experience.
