Mental Skills Training in Triathlon
Hey all,
I have been working with the Salt Lake Triathlon Club over the last 2 years as a Mental Skills Coach and have had a lot of questions come in concerning when the best time is to train specific skills. For example, in my professional opinion, a beginner triathlete should focus on emotional control and controlling race day energy before moving into more advanced mental skills like utilizing imagery or self talk.
After joining the club I wanted to know how to help the athletes that I worked with more so I decided to train for an Ironman just to see the mindset that it took to accomplish a feat like that. I wrote up a little piece on the experience called Reflection - Coeur d'Alene 2017 Ironman if anyone is interested.
All in all, I wonder what everyones opinions are regarding mental skills training and when specific skills should be trained...
