I shocking number of high level runners have been killed in car accidents. Apparently Kiptum was driving, no other car involved and he was thrown from vehicle meaning likely not seat belted.

Shockingly high? Is there a higher accident rate for professional runners or is that just hyperbole?

just saw the news - what a shame.

i used to live in eldoret, and the first thing my wife and i said to each other when we saw the news was "it figures." the highway out of town is awful, accidents are constantly claiming lives, and driving at night there is incredibly dangerous. i think a lot of people in rich countries don't have a sense of how high road deaths are in the developing world.
