Hi!
I was wondering, wether someone has inside on the Roka goggles coming soon.
What goggles is Javier Gomez wearing in the photo?
I would say it is the Orca Killa Goggle, not sure at all.

Greetings from germany

doubt he races in those. they are good for training, but not so much racing because they have no padding to protect the eye if kicked.

You think that Gomez is in a position where he's likely to get kicked in the face much? He's a front of front pack swimmer.

edit, I don't know if he races in swedes or not, but that's what he's wearing in the photo, and he could wear them if he wanted.

Hi Nick,

Javier did race for many years in traditional Swedes without padding or gasketed Swedes. Recall that he was a competitive swimmer before he got into triathlon.

Last season he switched to some prototype goggles of ours. Here he is coming first out of the water at IM 70.3 World Champs - http://instagram.com/p/zAhTP_CG57. He also wore them the week before at the ITU WTS Grand Final.

We'll be launching our goggles sometime next month most likely. Stay tuned.

Best,
Rob

Retouched much? Aside from the focus, it is strange that he's in a black Roka cap, no?

Looks like he double caps, with goggles over black roka cap, then under race cap.

Gothca. Just seemed odd that the other 3 had yellow caps and he had no sign of a yellow cap. Don't recall Harry racing that one ;)

Hi Legalgooner,

Lucky for you I am a bit of a photo geek and am happy to share. :)

Here is a snap of the raw file: https://cdn.shopify.com/...13549951887699821418.

I took that shot at the swim finish using a Nikon D4s and a 300mm f/2.8 VR II. The shallow depth of field (ie blurry background) is caused by shooting at f/2.8 and the fact that those guys were many feet behind. The bigger the separation, the more the blur. In terms of lighting, the swim finish and chute were in the shadows, so as Javi passed into the shadows, he and the rest of the foreground were underexposed relative to section behind with those guys trailing. To make the image usable, I dodged the foreground to lighten it up. Pretty standard post production stuff. The 300mm f/2.8 is one of the sharpest prime teles around, so no other treatment needed. Instagram may have done something when I posted it, but I didn't apply any special filters.

His cap is missing because someone pulled it off during the race....

Best,
Rob

His roka'ing that suit.

Serious question though as an oddface that went trough 7goggles before finding one that work(predator flex) even after trying them and doing the suction test. What would be the sales direction with your online model? Shipping a ill fitting pair of 30$ goggles back will cost more then the item for your international fans.

Perhaps it's best to buy the whole catalogue and the try and get more value that way?..thats an idea.

I swam in Swedes and I'm definitely not FOP. I got kicked in the face twice, and it wasn't really different from other goggles. My worst impact was when I was wearing Zoggs Predators, the "OWS-friendly" ones - the rubber bottomed out and the impact went straight to my bones. With the Swedes, not only are they lower-profile so less likely to be hit, but they sort of transmitted the impacts to the side and the soft tissue, so sharp pain but not even a black eye. These days I swim in rubberized Swedes, the Nootca 5 - mainly because the rubber grips better in strong waves and the optics are superior.

I do all my training and racing in swedes (non padded.) Been kicked in the face loads of times and it's fine (well not fine but you know!) Because they are quite low profile and small they seem to stay on when I get hit in the face as well, but I do also always wear them under a swim hat with some of the hat covering the top of the goggles for a bit of extra security. Equally they cost pennies so if you loose a set in the swim/ at the pool not a worry!

Is that just for goggles or suits as well?

You just gave me a reason to hold off on purchasing my next set of goggles. I've been more than satisfied with my Sim Pro shorts and I'm starting to be a ROKA believer!!

Thanks all!

Shipping from overseas will be for all products, probably a subset of neoprene suits to start.

On goggles, we also will have swedes. I wore them exclusively in my competitive swimming days and wouldn't launch goggles without them. Low volume seller, but cult classic. :)

Swim meet warm up is a pretty dangerous place, lots of Swedes.
