As far as I know it is a mass start with one exception being 2013(?) when there was a separate start, about 10 minutes after the main wave for the people wearing wetsuits. I didn't think that the mass start was much of an issue the two years I did it.

.

Once, I was fast. But I got over it.

Per the 2015 event schedule age group start is at 7am with no mention of swim waves

I did IMCZ last November. It was supposed to be a mass start but 2 weeks out they changed it to a wave start. You never know...

.

2011: Wetsuit and non-wetsuit swimmers went off at 7am
2012: Non-Wetsuit 7am, wetsuit 7:10am
2013: Same as 2012
2014: Wetsuit legal so everyone went at 7am
2015: So far same as 2012 and 2013 if water temp between 76.1 and 83.8, or 7am for all if wetsuit legal

Thanks - wasn't sure with the entire swimsmart initiative if the start had been changed. Maybe that is only for the dry land starts for the swim.

I'm surprised they have not changed IMTX to a rolling/TT swim start.
