Insanity is doing the same thing..

Race Lessons:
- Forgot sandals (again)
- Didn't eat enough breakfast (again)
- Didn't eat enough on the bike (again)
- Forgot to bring water to fill my bta bottle (had to use pre-race mix instead)
- Forgot to charge my watch (again)
- Forgot to run more in the buildup to the race (i.e. >1 month out) (again)
- Forgot to train in general (again)

Finished an oly last weekend. Hit the wall as soon as I hit the sidewalk. Swim was good then a poor bike strategy led to a disappoint run and race. Was hoping to post a decent time on this new setup

The only thing that mattered significantly are the last two.

Everything else you mentioned will make essentially no difference in an Oly race. For a HIM or IM, it's more important, but not for an Oly.

Lack of focus is the downfall of many an athlete.

Dude, if you can master charging your watch and packing your sandals, the rest will fall into place. I'm serious. If you are not committed enough to charge your watch before a race, of course you "forgot" to train!

Come up with your watch and sandals plan, stick to it, and be amazed.

Have you got any more and bigger pictures of your bike? Looks like very clean cable routing. I've converted my S5 to a TT bike, my only gripe is the brake cables

Sure, I can PM some to you. I used the aerobars to store all the shifter cabling. I had to shave off some bits off the larger junction box.

Cable routing is all the same as road setup. I didn't have to use different cables or housing.

Suck it up, sweetcakes.

It's discipline first, last, always.

That would be awesome.

I've got eTap on mine so the front end by the junction box is a bit crazy, I'm always looking for ways to make it smoother

For preparations: make, and use, a checklist.

For training: get a coach or join a tri club. You need someone to train with, or at least someone that will yell at you if you don't.

You must be very forgetful. I've forgotten shoes, meetings and birthdays but I've never forgotten to train...

Was that supposed to be in pink? Because I doubt that wheel (26 mm deep, 18 bladed spokes) is more than ~30 seconds slower in an Oly than (pick any expensive, deep carbon front wheel of your choice).

If I am not training enough I am acutely aware of it!. +2 on the people who mentioned checklists.

They constantly try to escape from the darkness outside and within

First pic is from the non-drive side. Rear brake cable is re-used and threaded into the right-hand handlebar. In truth I'm not 100% happy with the brake cabling as they are not housed in the sleeve and are probably not 100% efficient. You can also see the e-tube cable coming up through the frame from the bottom junction, as well as the shifter cable coming out of the left aerobar. These two are fed into the right aerobar.

Not sure why the other images aren't appearing inline. But in the other pics you will see the front cable housing again re-used and fed into the left handlebar. All other e-tube wires are in the right aerobar, including the junction box with the battery indicator, and a splice box that allows me to connect the female di2 TT shifters to the junction box, since both have direct-fed wiring.

Hope that helps!

We all forget stuff. Last race I forgot to charge my bike computer. Fortunately I brought my son who reminded me that my watch also reads my power tap.

I guess we just need back-up

As for the commmentor about long course. You do need a sufficient breakfast for an Olympic.

The last time I checked the only wheel slower than that front was the helium SL with the red spoke...

That was very interesting. I think the same is true of surgeons. The best are those that are disciplined throughout their training, at least that is what my boss always said.
