Hey, Slowtwitch family...One of our own could use your help. Whether it's positive words, or a few dollars, it all adds up. We've had awesome response from the ATX area, but I know that we can reach more people here.

A multiple Ironman finisher, cyclist, cyclocross, swimmer, and member of Texas Iron, Laurie Allen, had a bad fall a few weeks ago and broke her cervical spine at C6-7 with a spinal cord injury. She has some arm movement, but not fine motor control (yet--think hands!!). Her story is being chronicled here: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/laurieallen
She and her husband have handled this life-changing injury with such grace and strength. Laurie has kept a smile on her face, and maintained a positive attitude. Every single staff member I have spoken to at the St. David's (Austin) Rehab Unit say that she is one of the most positive patients they have ever worked with. She is recording new PRs in her wheelchair every lap she takes around the rehab unit. She wants to race again, whether in the para category or not. They have looked into stem cell treatments and there is some hope and promise there. She, her husband, her family, and her friends would love to see her regain as much function as possible. There is a gofundme page set up for her, http://www.gofundme.com/laurieallen
On behalf of Laurie and Matt, Thank you so very much!!
