Indoor time trial races on Computrainers
In a few weekends I will be doing my first indoor time trial competition. The setup is that there will be waves with 16 people on Computrainers in each wave riding a 10km course, described as rolling hills. Every person is weighed prior to the race, and the person with the fastest bike split wins. The estimation of CdA must be based only weight since my friends who have done it in the past told me they do not measure your height. I looked up the results from one the previous years where they post the results with time, speed, power, power/weight and this is what I found (top 10):

Time Speed W W/kg
1 13:44.24 42.39 396.37 5.75
2 14:01.45 41.53 387.27 4.74
3 14:10.72 41.07 347.13 5.55 4 14:18.94 40.67 339.07 5.09 5 14:21.21 40.57 355.12 4.45 6 14:30.12 40.15 324.42 4.41 7 14:30.39 40.14 344.5 5 8 14:30.42 40.15 338.18 4.52 9 14:34.85 39.94 366.21 4.44 10 14:40.25 39.69 345.66 4.38
Based on these results, the ranking isn't purely W/kg, like the Zwift riding I do, but favors those with high absolute FTPs, much like a normal TT. Though in this type of competition you don't have to worry about CdA since it's based only on your weight. My focus is bike racing and over the past 6 months my training has been tuned to increased my FTP, and I have lost a bit of weight which will help my power to weight ratio. Has anyone else here done similar types of indoor competitions and found similar results whereby you want to try and maximize absolute and not worry too much about loosing any extra weight.

You're right, the computrainer course software only takes riders weight. I'm not sure how speed is actually calculated, but in my experiences highest avg wattage is usually fastest... to an extent. W/kg plays a small role but certainly not as significant as riding outdoors, just push big watts and don't worry about a couple LBS of body weight.

As you crest the hills, throw in a bit of a surge so that your speed picks up for the downhill sections then dial it back to threshold-ish power on the downs.
