My friend wants to buy her first road bike & is looking for ideas. She is 5'3" and wants to spend around $1K. She is going to use it for general use & perhaps a tri or two next year. Any ideas would be helpful.

Terry Symmetry for $900. Georgena Terry originated the concept of WSD and still does it better than anybody else, IMO. I'm 5'4", my Symmetry is the first and only road bike I have ever owned, and it feels in every way like an extension of my own body.

I just got my fiancee a Trek 1500 WSD. Seems pretty decent for the price (although I know a lot of folks here are anti-Trek).
