4:14. Nice.

I guess he doesn't spend all his time pontificating here.

No- I'm not sure what he was riding. Premier was the bike sponsor.

I saw him go by but not sure- maybe the felt?

Thanks guys. Slowtwitch Regular Brad Williams messaged me hoping I would start an "ask me anything thread", but I can answer any questions you have here. And yes, I drank Precision Hydration.

Well if we are going to ask anything, did you ride as fast as Don and get the moto tow or were the motos too fast?

Congratulations! Breaking the tape must have felt great. When is the last time you had that honor?

What was your first thought during the race related to Slowtwitch?

How was the 3 loop bike? You had concerns about the safety going in, but your bike splits looked super even.

How was the heat & humidity on the run? It seemed to zap just about everyone, at least according to their post-race texts and strava comments.

I heard the swim was a bit long with the mat being after the wetsuit strippers. If that's the case, your swim time was pretty impressive given the amount of swim training you put in prior to the race.

Would you recommend the race to others?

You Sir are maybe the finest example how wrong those "expert online" idiots are who say "slowtwitchers are only fast on their keyboards" or "if slowtwitchers only trained half as much as they spend being experts online"

There is this ST poster whose handle ends with "star" who won a few IM branded races here and there too you know!!!! And the Kona bike course record holder who even won Kona that year also used to post on here! I THINK the ST poster IM record is held by Jonas Colting from Irondistance Almere (he did an 8:08 there)....so a few other online guys were also real life fast!

Very impressive. It looks like you took the lead on the run, at about what mile did you take it??? Also, was the swim a wave start, rolling start, mass start, or???

Great work. Your success is undoubtedly the fruit of both your hard work and the discerning view you take toward training and equipment.

The bike course set up -- 3 loops with thousands of athletes -- was definitely a bad idea, but in general I was really impressed with how well most athletes stayed right and/or rapidly shifted right when they heard "on your left". Of course there were a couple dozen people doing really dumb things, and I popped outside the cones several times, but in general it was much more manageable than I thought it would be.

It heated up on the back half of the run for sure. The cloud cover burned off and once you get into the central casino-lined area of the AC boardwalk there's just not much Ocean breeze. The last few miles were basically carnage

I would recommend the race, especially if you're in NYC or Philly and want a 70.3 you can easily drive to. This race isn't threatening some of the better 70.3s in the country or world in terms of venue -- the bike course is mostly "blah" -- but the boardwalk run and finish is cool and, like all MDot races, was well run.

It was a rolling start. In these rolling start races I like to seed myself well behind what I'm capable of swimming -- yesterday I went right before the 36-45 minute corral -- because I hate the prospect of beating someone to the line but not beating them in the race. The guy who led the race started the swim a couple minutes before me, so it looks like I passed him 8 miles into the run (from the results) but physically it wasn't until a little after 10 miles. I am glad I got to the line first -- breaking the tape (at a race like this) was a new experience for me and really was cool

Thanks...next up is Swim Run North Carolina in late October, and then my first ever open marathon on November 19 -- the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon in Nashville, TN. So basically, next up is a run focus for a bit

Seriously congrats man. What's the target for the marathon? Will you beat Jorgensen's NYC marathon time? Or do you have higher targets like Stadler's Frankfurt marathon time?

Haha...thanks Dev. No chance I can come within striking distance of either of those marks. This Flyinh Monkey marathon is a bear of a thing with 3,600 feet of climbing (~140 feet / mile average). I hope to run somewhere around 2:50-2:52, which is roughly equivalent to 2:38-2:40 on a 'normal' course. I don't know if that goal is realistic, but like Jordan and his Norseman training, I plan to run up and down every hill I can find to try and get there

Yeah, I was projecting you to be able to run somewhere between Gwen and Stadler's times on a "normal course". In terms of running up and down every hill imaginable, you largely have most of the uphill training already done with standard bike training plus standard run training. The real issue is the downhills. Do you have access to one of those threadmills that goes down to minus 4 percent...if so, you can alternate plus 10% intervals with fast downhill minus 4. Or stick some blocks behind a treadmill and create a minus 5 grade open up the front and run a fan on the motor. You're light enough that the motor should not die on decent treadmill while lifting you uphill on each stride before your downhill. Depending on where you live, you may not have long enough duration downhills.
