So all US im events are put on by IMNA and IMKY will be a WTC event?

Are these 2 different companies?

Are they in competition with each other?

What other events are WTC?

WTC owns "Ironman". They own the brand and license it out for other organizations to put on races. IMNA is the organization that up until now had the exclusive contract to put on "Ironman" races in North America. WTC puts on the 70.3 race series and Kona.

IMNA is the "franchisee" that runs IMC, IMLP, IMAZ, IMFL, IMCdA.

All other events are run by independent RD's, except for Kona.

each event RD has a contract with and pays a fee to WTC to put on the race

Are these 2 different companies? Yes, IMNA puts on these races under license from WTC

Are they in competition with each other? It appears they are now. I am surprised, I thought Graham had an exclusive with WTC for all IM in North America.

What other events are WTC? Kona and 70.3 championships.

So the franchisor (wtc) is now in competition with the franchisees (imna and all other rd's in the world) correct?

It is like a franchised mcdonalds next door to a corporate owned mcdonalds - both fighting for the same customers... us.

It's not quite like the McDonald's example unless both those McDonald's are filled to capacity with a line out their doors and the drive thrus are backing up traffic.

Not sure if these is on the same topic, but when I registered for Eagleman last year I paid a fee to WTC, I believe, because it was not a USAT race, but then it was. USAT said something about crediting people the WTC when they signed up for there yearly membership.

For Clarification since few people truely understand:

WTC - Owns the rights to "Ironman" & "Ironman 70.3" & "70.3" events ... if they "franchise" an event the RD or company pays for the rights to use the appropriate logo.

WTC also puts on / owns Ironman Kona, Honu Ironman 70.3, Ironman 70.3 Champs and now Ironman Louisville

All other Ironmans, Ironman 70.3's, and 70.3's are put on independant RD's or independant groups (i.e. IMNA)

Hope that helps ...

Did you miss IMMOO or are they separate?

Why is IMC sponsored by Subaru instead of Ford like the rest of them?

I always thought Canada was somehow separate.

Swim - Bike - Run the rest is just clothing changes.

Subaru has sponsored Canada since before IM's had sponsors I think. At least back to the early 90's. IMNA runs Canada too. I think the Ford sponsorship is US races. IMNA also does MOO.

And the Florida and California 70.3 events.

Still waiting confirmation from an insider that IMNA has lost its exclusive rights for North America. Unless IMNA doesn't want or doesn't have the resources to oranize additional IM races in NA, I do not see the logic in the WTC move.

I suspect that is was a timing and manpower thing. IMKY is the same weekend as IMC. IMNA is going to be busy with IMC, so they can't do IMKY. I doubt the WTC is looking to supplant IMNA in any way.

Why on earth would IMNA agree to a race on the same date as another of their races to be done by another company and losing their "exclusive" contract? This makes no sense to me. Something is going one under the surface me thinks.
