Hey all,
I am doing The Canadian (Sept 2) and it's my first IM.
I am curious as to what others are doing for an IM race that is 5 months or so away. I think I have a good idea of how my training plan should go but wouldn't mind seeing what some others are doing/will be doing.
If you are doing The Candian IM distance event or even IM Moo(2 weeks after), if you could post maybe a general idea of your plans, I would so appreciate it!
Thanks in advance.

Hi Tamara,
Here is what I am up to this week (week 8 of 30 for IM MOO):
M: 2500yd straight swim (41 min, about 1:40/100)
Tu: 1hr Z2 run
W: 45min Z2 bike/15min Z2 run
Th: 60min Z1 spin on bike (AM) / triathlon swim class (PM)
Fr: 1hr Z2 run
Sa: 2hr Z2 bike
Su: 1hr Z1-2 run
There should be another swim (2500 of drills and shorter swim segments) that I need to do during the weekend, not sure where that will end up b/c I will be out of town.
I am following the "competitive" program from the "Be Iron Fit" book. Don't know if that is a good thing or not...I'll let you know in 22 weeks.
Best of luck!

If you go to IMC on sept 2 you wont have to train at all.
The Canadian is not the same as IMC, smartass. :P
"The Canadian" is not IMC. 2 different races.

I did the Canadian last year as my first Iron Distance (can't say IM!). I really enjoyed it. It's a great first Iron, being so flat. Gave me confidence for LP this year.
Looking at my training log for this week last year shows the unorthodox totals of 71K running, 1200m swim and zero biking. But that's because I was training (tapering) for Boston. As soon as Boston was over I got the bike out of the basement and made up for lost time.
I did Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour and found it a great training event. Are you signed up for it?
I did as well at the Canadian as I expected (12:12), so the conclusion for me was that 4.5 months of biking is sufficient if you have a good base.
Good luck!

Skip the ncm on May 28th. You don't need to do a marathon to do an Ironman. If anything it is detrimental as it takes 3 weeks out of your race prep (1 week taper, 2 weeks recovery). If you want to race the marathon for the sake of racing it, that is fine, but if it is an Ironman prep event, then can it.
Good luck. See you at the Canadian. I will be racing the half and working as a volunteer afterwards.
