Yeah, Chris only has the course record at Madison and sets bike course records everywhere he goes. It does not take away from Jordan, just puts out there that it is not a body type that dictates performance. Yes, I know both Chris McDonald and Jordan Rapp personally and have spent time with both...both rock, but are certainly not cut from the same mould.

Are all IM races run on such narrow paths? I haven't done a race longer than an Olympic so I am not sure. I'm just amazed that they have such little room to navigate. I can't imagine what it looks like when you get the AGer's coming through. I thought they would've closed the roads or done something so they weren't running on a sidewalk.

I know these guys are the epitome of fit, but I mean he looks like he just escaped from Bataan. I guess that is what it takes to be competitive at that level.....he is one lean machine. It would be fun to get that emaciated and then eat your way back to 190!j

The kid is a stud....go Jordan go baby go!

Yep, Jordan has this one...I wonder if the motors know they have a live mic on...I sorta doubt it.

My point was that it is not a body type that dictates performance and I dont want any newbies to think that it does. Even TH and Lothar were big dudes...all kinds of body types can perform at the highest of levels. I suppose we just dont see the same in open marathon as the Kenyans all sorta look like they have the same parents and skeletal structure.

Are you sure that it's not "the real disability is flying into a blind rage a fighting a cop, punching car windows out while riding a bike, and getting your friend shot in the head in a driveby"?

Sorry, couldn't resist...

yes you are right, it's the dumbest of all dumbest of disabilites. and no harm done.

It's not about the bike, it's just along for the ride.

Oh no doubt. In multisport you can't look at the chassis and make an assumption....his engine is LARGE. Psyched for Jordan he seems like such a nice, genuine kid.

I was wondering that too. Maybe he needs extra clearance for his prosthetics? Guess we'd really have to ask him.

They're moustache handlebars:

http://www.stanford.edu/~dru/moustache.html

Given that he's got to use his abs and gluteus to help pedal way more than anyone else (or exclusively?), I'd wager that these handlebars afford him a more comfortable position and a larger variety of ways to grip the bars to help with the fatigue. ironman.com showed him in aerobars, though, so who knows.

The men through 45 miles
JORDAN RAPP (#1) is in the lead, followed by:
* TJ TOLLAKSON (#15) at 2 seconds
* PAUL AMBROSE (#4) at 1:31
* RAYNARD TISSINK (#3) at 1:35
* AXEL ZEEBROEK (#10) at 1:59
* RICHIE CUNNINGHAM (#14) at 2:01
* TORSTEN ABEL (#18) at 2:03
* RENE GOEHLER (#7) at 2:06
* CLEMENS COENEN (#27) at 5:26
* ERIC BEAN (#24) at 5:51

is #2 drafting or what?

TJ is not a drafter. Never has been, and I don't think he ever will be.
