I'm assuming I need it to have a sram hub since I have sram components on my drivetrain is this correct? Can a Shimano hub be made compatible or is this a no-no? Any details on what I need to look for would be helpful thanks.

SRAM/Shimano are one in the same, at least for 10 spd. I mix both and it all works. Some cassettes have more clatter than others or require a bit of tweaking.
I have SRAM Red drivetrain, Ultegra drive trains, SRAM, Ultegra or DA cassettes depending on the rear I want to swap in.
